MUSKOGEE’S TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
Muskogee has some absolute stars on this year’s team. Multiple D1 commits, a junior quarterback who will be a D1 commit in the future, but senior Anthony Watson Anthony Watson 6’0″ | 220 lbs | ATH Muskogee | 2024 State OK is a player that is criminally underrated across the state. Watson is just a very good football player on both sides of the ball. On offense, Watson has the ability to be a security blanket for the passing game as a tight end. On defense, Watson is a very disruptive defensive lineman. In the semifinal win over Deer Creek, it was Watson who came up with the goal line stand as the Antlers went for the win with 15 seconds left.
Highlights
We were able to catch Muskogee in person a couple times during the regular season. During their week two clash with Carl Albert, the Roughers came up short but senior Deyonn Bowler Deyonn Bowler 5’9″ | 150 lbs | DB Muskogee | 2024 State OK was outstanding in the open field. The Titans have some of the best skill players in the state and Bowler did a great job of keeping them in front of him and tackling in one on one situations. As the Roughers look to slow down Stillwater, we expect Bowler to have a major impact on the defensive side of the ball. It’s going to be interesting to see what that impact looks like on Friday afternoon.
Highlights
Muskogee junior quarterback Jamarian Ficklin Jamarian Ficklin 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Muskogee | 2025 State OK is one of the best quarterbacks in the state. If you haven’t seen him this season, you’re missing out. He has taken his game to a completely new level. He’s thrown for over 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns this season but it’s the running game that Ficklin has emerged as a complete game-changer with the football in his hands. Ficklin also has nearly 900 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. He leads the team in every rushing category. By the end of his career, he’ll have well over 10,000 passing yards and 100 touchdowns.
Muskogee senior defensive back Jayden Swanson Jayden Swanson 6’0″ | DB Muskogee | 2024 State OK has emerged as a legitimate prospect for the next level over the last 18 months. We didn’t know much about Swanson prior to last season. But he had a strong junior season and carried that momentum over to the offseason. We saw him quite a bit while he was playing with Sooner 7 in various 7v7 tournaments and he was routinely one of the better cover corners in those tourneys. And Swanson will play a big role for Muskogee on Friday afternoon. He’ll look to take away Stillwater’s top target in the passing game.
Muskogee senior and UNLV commit Kayden McGee Kayden McGee 6’1″ | WR Muskogee | 2024 State OK is one of the best wide receivers in the state. This season, he has over 1,000 yards receiving and has well over 20 receiving touchdowns in the last two years. We’ve mentioned this before with McGee, but just in case you’re new here, McGee is one of the best players in the biggest moments. It seems like every time we’ve seen the Muskogee standout in person, he makes one of the biggest plays in the game. He is a big play machine and with the Roughers one win from a state title, expect McGee to shine bright.
Muskogee junior running back Latavion Johnson Latavion Johnson 5’10” | RB Muskogee | 2025 State OK has become a breakout star for the Muskogee offense this season. With Johnson in the backfield, the Roughers have yet another weapon to break a game open. Johnson had just six touchdowns on the ground coming into this season. But this season, Johnson has 14 touchdowns on the ground. He has multiple games this season with more than one rushing touchdown. And while Ficklin is leading the team in every rushing category, don’t overlook Johnson and others being able to impact the game when it comes to running the ball.
Muskogee junior standout Ondraye Beasley Ondraye Beasley 5’11” | ATH Muskogee | 2025 State OK is one of the more versatile players on the Muskogee offensive side of the ball. Beasley is the team’s third leading rusher but has been able to be very productive when he’s running the ball. But it’s as a wide receiver that the Muskogee junior has his greatest impact. He’s second on the team in receiving behind McGee. But when McGee graduates, it’s hard to imagine anyone else other than Beasley emerging as Ficklin’s new top target. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of impact the junior has on Friday’s game.
Muskogee senior Teyon Brewer Teyon Brewer 6’3″ | 245 lbs | DL Muskogee | 2024 State OK has grown tremendously over the last several seasons. As the Roughers went through the growing pains of a few seasons ago, Brewer was able to break into the starting lineup and be an impact player along the defensive line. Brewer is once again in that position as we head into the state championship game and like Watson, Brewer gives the Roughers a game-changing player on the front. And considering Stillwater has one of the better running backs in the state, Brewer and the Muskogee defensive line will look to limit his opportunities.
For the second straight season, linebacker Treyveon Houston Treyveon Houston 5’10” | LB Muskogee | 2024 OK has over 120 tackles and this season, he’s leading the team in tackles with 124 tackles on the year. One thing we like about this Muskogee defense is how they swarm to the football and they have quite a few players that have racked up the numbers in the tackling category. Like we mentioned with Bowler and Brewer, this Muskogee defense has guys all over the field that can change the game in the blink of an eye. As the Roughers look to slow down Stillwater’s rushing attack, look for Houston to be flying all over the field.
As we came into this season, we had Muskogee’s offensive line as a unit that we had circled to potentially be one of the better units in the state. Leading the way for the Rougher offensive line has been senior Wesley Harvey Wesley Harvey 6’8″ | 270 lbs | OL Muskogee | 2024 State OK and he comes into this week as one of the more experienced players in the state. Harvey is hard to miss at 6’6 and he might even be closer to 6’7. And he has shown continued growth in his ability on the field as a dominating left tackle. Harvey is a punishing blocker and does a really good job as the anchor of a talented Muskogee offensive line.
