Here’s a new series called, “The National Film Room” where I go through the film of a 2028 prospect–whether they follow me on social media or not–and I provide some honest feedback on what I see. Not all these athletes will make the Watchlist in their state, but all have shown some ability during their eighth-grade season in 2023. Today, take a look at some 2028 prospects in Tennessee.
When Apple went public in 1980 shares were selling for $22 a piece; Today, Apple is being sold at nearly $172 per share. I say this because it mimics what I think could happen for Koehn Dial Koehn Dial 6’8″ | 295 lbs | OL Battle Ground Academy | 2028 TN in the future. I bought stock when I saw him as a sixth-grader in June 2022 and he’s now up to At 6-foot-7 and up to 245 pounds. The height has always been there for the Avery Trace Middle Schooler, but the weight and build is also starting to come together. I continuously have to battle the urge to list him as an offensive tackle because of his size and build, but what he did as a defensive tackle/defensive end this season should shut me up. From splitting double teams on the interior line, to keeping his wide-shoulder free as a defensive end, he’s a big reason Avery Trace was able to defeat Smith County 8-6 for the championship a week ago. The big man must continue to work on foot speed, quickness and staying low; However, I’m telling anyone reading this…buy stock, now.
Highlights
Moberg was part of Station Camp Middle School team that finished 6-2 this year and fell to T.W. Hunter Middle School in the Sumner County championship game, 28-3. Despite the lopsided score in the championship game, he played a pretty big role on both sides of the ball, in the success of the Bison in 2023. He made plays as a slot receiver throughout the year, in addition to reaching the end zone as punt and kicker returner. However, he shined brightest as a safety. His willingness to come up and hit is impressive. Though, it should be noted, he needs to improve the angles he takes when trying to track down ball carrier when there is distance between them. He almost always brings the ball-carrier down, but will be an even better tackler when he improves his angles.

I spoke with a local coach recently and he told me that Dawson Head Dawson Head 5’11” | 170 lbs | ATH Bearden | 2028 TN has the chance to be pretty special if he continues to play the way he does right now. He’s a thick, muscular kid who is currently listed at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds (unofficially). We first saw Head as sixth-grader as part of the Tennessee Future Stars and was a standout in that game in June 2022. Since then, he has continued to impress as both a running back and a linebacker for Bearden Middle School. He passes the eye-test right away but when you turn on the film, you can see the 11.39 100M and 23.55 200M-speed that has helped him qualify for the State Track and Field Championships. Long term I project him to playing more linebacker than running back, but at this point there’s no rush to put parameters around him.
T.W. Hunter Middle School in Sumner County, Tennessee had a very impressive season, as they won their second consecutive County Championship and third in the past five years. On a team full of talented 2028 and 2029 prospects, Car’del (who also goes by CJ) Douglas played a big factor on both sides of the ball for the Buccaneers. At 5-foot-5 and 152-pounds he was a nice mix of speed and power at the running position and showed he can run it up between the tackles just as well as he can in open field. Just as he does on offense, he relies heavily on his speed when he’s playing outside linebacker. His speed is very good–but not elite when comparing around the country. That’s where his strength and ability to shed arm tackles (on offense) and over-extended blockers (on defense) is really evident. He’s one to watch.
I’m goin back to Station Camp Middle School one more time in this write up to shine a light on what quarterback, Nate Dye Nate Dye 5’10” | 165 lbs | QB Station Camp | 2028 TN did this season for the Bison. Despite dropping the championship game in less than dramatic fashion by score of 28-3, Dye was a highlight show in every game he played. Helping to lead the Bison to a 5-0 Eastern Division mark and 6-2 overall record on the year, Dye showed off his dual-threat ability early and often during the season. However, he saved his most profitable run for the Eastern Division Championship game against Liberty Creek. On the play Dye zig-zagged his way 40 yards out of the shotgun formation and scored the game-winning touchdown to help notch the 14-12 victory. He’s listed at 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds (unverified) right now; If he can continue to play at this level and tack on some inches, he’ll have attention from the next level.
