Championships are coming close to being claimed, post-season honors have been earned, and the the class of 2028 is getting set to move on to high school ball. However, there is still some time before these 8th graders become freshmen–so let’s take a look at some of these Kentucky ballers.
For the second year in a row, Will Adams Will Adams 6’0″ | 165 lbs | QB Northern Pulaski | 2028 KY proved to be one of the top middle school prospects in the state of Kentucky, as he was recently named to the Regional Player of the Year Honorable Mention Team. Adams was an exciting two-way athlete to watch, creating big plays as a quarterback and halting big plays as a safety. Coming from a Northern Pulaski program that has won six Kentucky Middle School Football Association titles, Adams has emerged as a 2028 prospect that coaches need to get on their radar.
Highlights
As I write this, Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) is set to play in the Regional Championship game this upcoming weekend (October 28th). LCA is currently undefeated on the season, much in part to a tremendous effort from some of its eighth-grade class, including Jeremiah Burbage Jeremiah Burbage 6’0″ | 160 lbs | ATH Lexington Christian Academy | 2028 KY . The 6-foot, 160-pound athlete (unconfirmed) has some promising versatility in his game, having lined up everywhere from wide receiver to defensive end to outside linebacker and other positions. The Burbage football pedigree is a strong one, as his father (Cornell) played professionally for nine years and his older brother (Jalen) is currently third on the team in both receptions and yards at Eastern Kentucky University.
South Laurel Middle School’s season came to an end this past weekend at the hands of Perry County, but the season was full of big time plays from Gage Baker Gage Baker DL South Laurel | 2028 KY . Baker was named to the Regional Player of the Year Honorable Mention Team, the lone representative from South Laurel. Baker was a pest on the defensive front all season long for the Cardinals and made it a habit of securing tackles for loss. Primarily lining up as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme, he used a combination of quickness to defeat his blocks, and strength to routinely bring down the ball carrier.
The right arm of Knox Barrett Knox Barrett QB Elkhorn | 2028 KY was on display all season long for the Elkhorn Elks, as QB1 let the ball spin early and often in 2023. Elkhorn’s season came to an end this past weekend and with it, so does Barrett’s middle school career–but it’s been a memorable last two seasons. He was named to the Regional Player of the Year Honorable Mention Team last year as a seventh-grader, and again this year as an 8th grader. Whether rolling out or sitting comfortably in the pocket, the results were much the same. In eight games during the regular season, he completed 60% of his passes and tallied 1,122 yards, 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Anderson County’s Noah Beasley Noah Beasley 6’4″ | 170 lbs | TE Anderson County | 2028 KY is a budding, two-sport star that next level football and basketball coaches should start taking a look at–now. While not verified, he’s already in the neighborhood of 6-foot-4 and 170 pounds in just the eighth grade. On the gridiron he had a standout seventh, and eighth-grade season for the Mustangs, earning a spot on the Regional Player of the Year Honorable Mention Team in both years. On film it’s not hard to see why I’m very high on him. Beasley is a physical mismatch against smaller defensive back’s and the basketball skills of blocking out and rebounding, make high-pointing and winning 50/50 balls a mundane thing for him. As he continues to sharpen skills and if his speed picks up a bit, he’ll be playing on the next level.
