Time flies when football is on! It has already been 5 weeks of football at the Section V level. In this past week, there were some great scoring plays and games that are described below. Some teams put on a scoring show, and you really will not regret checking it out!

09/29: Brighton vs Webster-Thomas

Once again Brighton High School being able to score 40+ points in a game showed when they took on Webster-Thomas. Brighton scored 42 points in this game that took place on Friday, and it was led once again by their outstanding QB [player_tooltip player_id='307380' first='Tyler' last='Martinovich']. Early on, Martinovich delivered a beautiful ball to his receiver John Ahrens for a 31-yard TD. Ahrens beat two defenders to get in for 6. Then the very next TD from Martinovich was a beautiful 21-yard back shoulder to Ahrens. Martinovich then was able to toss a 17-yard TD and rush for a 29-yard TD. On the TD run, Brighton ran the read option, where Martinovich took off into the gaping hole that was left on the left C-gap. Brighton ended the game with 392 total yards with 198 yards coming through the air.

09/29: East vs Greece Arcadia

It was a complete blow out by East High School when they took on Greece Arcadia. It would not be a game report for this East football team without mentioning their star QB [player_tooltip player_id='521408' first='Zymier' last='Jackson']. Once again, Jackson was able to make impressive plays through the air and on the ground with his legs. One play that I loved to see from Jackson wasn't the flashiest play, but the correct and mature play. Jackson took a snap from the gun, scanned the field going through all his passing options, and then took off to move the chains for a first down. Simply going through your progressions, and making the smart choice is what you want to see. Jackson was also able to make impressive rushing TD's, and multiple passing TD's as well. The best throw that Jackson made was a deep TD pass to [player_tooltip player_id='406846' first='Ervin' last='Wiggins'] Jr. that was executed with perfect mechanics. Speaking of Wiggins Jr., he also had a huge impact on the defensive side where he was able to jump a route for a pick-six. This East football team continues to dominate games and is just firing on all cylinders

09/30: Churchville-Chili vs Eastridge

It was a matchup on Saturday between Churchville-Chili and Eastridge where Churchville-Chili was able to walk away with the win. It was a 27 to 9 win by Churchville-Chili where it started with a 41-yard pass by QB [player_tooltip player_id='527784' first='Chase' last='Shepanski'] to WR Joshua Campbell. On the pass, Shepanski delivered perfectly even taking a shot after the ball was released. Later in the 3rd quarter, RB Ricardo Lagares had a very tough 41-yard TD run. Lagares was able to hit the outside and break an arm tackle near the boundary to sprint into the end zone. One last highlight on the offensive side for Churchville-Chili was a very impressive 15-yard TD catch by [player_tooltip player_id='838727' first='Eric' last='Neal'] in the corner of the end zone. Neal ran a very clean out and go route where he was able to secure the catch in traffic. The defense for Churchville-Chili was able to put the game away with an INT return for a TD by Joshua Kabaka. For Eastridge, getting the ball to their RB [player_tooltip player_id='527866' first='Amere' last='Rodgers'] really was the only positive gain they were able to produce. Rodgers was able to make a couple of impressive gains on the ground and through the air.

09/30: Pittsford Mendon vs Edison Tech

It was a very high scoring game by Pittsford Mendon when they put up 42 points against Edison Tech. There was an explosive 70-yard TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='838679' first='Josiah' last='Joyner'] where he took the handoff from a direct snap. Joyner was able to weave in and out of traffic through the Edison Tech defenders. The straight speed to take off and outrun the entire defense was outstanding to see from Joyner. One of the biggest highlights of the day was a huge leaping catch over the Edison Tech defender by WR [player_tooltip player_id='527843' first='Luke' last='Fliss'] on the left side boundary. Fliss made the catch look easy when he out leaped the defender for a huge first down. To really put the game away and out of hand, DB [player_tooltip player_id='527874' first='Sammy' last='Renica'] returned a 54-yard INT for a TD. Edison Tech simply could not get the ball moving against this Pittsford Mendon defense. The Pittsford defense was so good, they held Edison Tech to 0 points scored. Such a dominating performance by Pittsford Mendon to improve their record.
