There are many factors that determine how many yards, touchdowns, tackles, sacks, and other stats that a player does or doesn’t accumulate in a season. Scheme, talent on a player’s team, as well as the level of talent a player and teams that player faces are just a few of the varying factors that can affect production. Because of the different variables and because not all stats are created equal, a major part of the projection game is about traits. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that stats don’t matter, but rather that they aren’t the end all be all when comparing high school players and their ability to play at the college level. So, the question players should be asking themselves is what are the elite traits they possess for the position they play? What separates them from the rest of the players at their position in high school football? When a player is trying to prove they’re one of the top 7% of all high school football players (the sum of players in college football) or the top 2% (players that will play D1), that’s what you must determine and advertise. That’s why I always tell high school kids who are making their highlight videos figure out what college coaches are looking for in your position, package that along with what you do that is elite. One such trait that college coaches look for in wide receivers is an elite combination of size and athleticism. Today, I highlight 5 uncommitted players who possess that elite combination.
2024 Jeremiah McDuffie Jeremiah McDuffie 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR Westerville South | 2024 State OH (Westerville South) 6’5 180- At 6’5 180 pounds, McDuffie, possesses the length and athleticism that possess major matchup problems for his opposition. He has good footwork and a strong release off the snap. While he’s not a burner, he has plenty of speed to create separation. Where I believe Jeremiah is elite, is when the ball is in the air. He’s really good at tracking the ball and positioning himself to make the catch. When the ball arrives, he has the body control and the dexterity to make difficult high point and contested catches. On a play versus Dublin Jerome, he runs a vert, goes up high, to high point a ball and bring it down for a 40-yard gain. Against Westerville Central he creates separation and hauls the ball in with a beautiful over the shoulder one-handed grab. McDuffie possesses traits to play division 1 football, but right now he’s simply being overlooked. With what he put on film in 2023, I’d be shocked if his college interests didn’t start to blow up as the high school football season winds down.

Maceo Harper

Harper
6'3" | 175 lbs | WR
Westerville Central | 2025
State
OH
(Westerville Central) 6’3 175- It’s been a tough season for Westerville Central as they’ve had some hard losses while facing a brutally tough schedule. Harper has been one of the bright spots this year for the Warhawks. I really like Harper as a route runner. He does a good job of pressing the zone and then sitting down to give his quarterback a good target. The reason he sees soft coverage is because he has the speed to get open and the ball skills to cause trouble deep. In the redzone he uses his height and does a good job of boxing out to make the grab. In the run game he’s a very willing blocker that shows good mirroring technique. I expect Harper to start to garner college interests this offseason. If Harper is able to add some good weight and strength this offseason I really think he could take his game to another level and set himself to have a big camp and senior football seasons.

Jovan Love

Love
6'2" | 190 lbs | WR
Archbishop Moeller | 2025
State
OH
(Moeller) 6’2 185- Jovan is a player that has really taken a big step as a player in his junior season. He currently sits in second place in the GCL South ranking for receiving yards on the season with 603 yards. He’s also tied for first in touchdown receptions with 7. He played his best game against one of the best teams in the state of Ohio, in Lakewood Saint Ed’s. On the day he recorded 8 receptions for 195 yards and 2 late touchdowns that helped the Crusaders pull within a touchdown of Ed’s. Love is explosive off the snap and has the speed to run by defensive backs. Jovan has excellent hands. He shows the ability to catch the ball away from his body which is an important trait at the college level when the windows to catch the ball are smaller and the defenders are in closer proximity to make a play on the ball. On more the one occasion you see Jovan haul in slant passes that are relative heaters from the quarterback. In the open field Love uses sudden and explosive movement abilities to make people miss. If you play wide receiver for the Moeller crusaders, then blocking is a definite part of the job description. Jovan is a physical blocker in the run game who loves to finish. He plays the game with a bit of an edge and that makes him dangerous whether in the pass or run games. As a 2025 who’s put out some really good film against a stout schedule, I expect Jovan’s college interest to really start to take off this offseason.

K’vaughn Davis
K’vaughn
Davis
6'4" | 210 lbs | WR
Alliance | 2024
State
OH
(Alliance) 6’4 210- Davis is a high school wide receiver that probably profiles more to a hybrid tight end at the next level. His combo of size, speed, and athleticism all project to plus traits at the college level. As a receiver K’vaughn’s best attribute would be his route running and ball skills. Davis has good bend and is able to smoothly navigate routes that create separation. The reason I have K’vaughn projected to tight end at the college level is because of the size and strength he possesses. Because of that size and strength he’s going to be a matchup problem for opposing defenses. When lined up inline, I think he’ll develop into strong blocker and that is a matchup problem in the pass game for linebackers who will have to defend him. Lined up to the outside his size and strength will be a mismatch for opposing safeties or slot corners who try and defend him. Davis is a very interesting “off the radar” senior. I really hope his recruitment starts to take off as I see him as a D1 FCS or FBS talent.

Sir Charles Gordon
Sir
Charles Gordon
6'4" | 185 lbs | WR
Saint Vincent Saint Mary | 2024
State
OH
(Saint Vincent Saint Mary) 6’4 185- I first saw Sir Charles at the University of Toledo camp in 2022, the summer before his sophomore year. After two seasons of initially seeing him play the game what I liked then is still what I like now. He has a really smooth game for a player of his size and length. His release is good and into his routes his breaks are sudden and effortless. He has the body control and athleticism to make plays without breaking stride. With the ball in his hands Gordon plays with great tempo as he shows the ability to slow down and then be explosive in a manner that keeps defenders off-balance. In the open field he has good vision and plays violently using stiff arms and putting his shoulder down to get the extra yard. Sir Charles is used a lot both the short passing game and on bubble screens. I like him as a big slot receiver in college. Gordon is another player I believe can play at the D1 FCS or FBS level.
