The speedy and elite caliber athlete Simms is emerging as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the country almost midway through his junior season. Not only does he possess the size (6’3″ 190) and speed (4.4) but he has the hands, route running and skill set colleges are looking for. So far in 2023 he has hauled in 389 yards and 6 touchdowns on a team loaded with offensive weapons. He already had multiple D1 offers and that list will continue to grow.

Battling Simms for the top dog spot at wide receiver is Lions big time prospect Miller, who transferred in from East St. Louis in the off season. I watched DJ last year when he was with the Flyers, and his talent was undeniable despite playing on a deeply talented team at receiver but with an emphasis on the run offense. At Ritter he is the main target of two D1 quarterbacks and it has really paid off. Miller has caught 13 passes for 222 yards and 4 touchdowns in only two games due to other teams forfeiting. He has great size (6’3″ 190) and looks to be pushing close to six-four, and glides effortlessly down and across the field. DJ runs crisp routes and gets good separation from defenders, and knows how to use his body to keep them from the ball with great positioning.

Dashon had what looked like a breakout season as a freshman for the Patriots but was injured during it. He came back and had a solid sophomore year, but looks like he has broken out again as a junior and is having a very good early part of his season so far. In four games the (6’1″ 180) Davis has 12 receptions for 339 yards for a 28.3 yards per catch average and 4 touchdowns. Dashon is another receiver with good speed and runs routes well but is also elusive after the catch and can make something extra happen with the ball in his hands.
Trey Bass | Lutheran North |
One of the fastest receivers in the state, the junior Bass has shown flashes of what could be since he was an 8th grader. In 2023 he has emerged as a consistent big play threat that opposing defenses have to know when he is and double up coverage of him deep. Trey has 18 catches for 303 yards and 5 touchdowns in becoming a reliable go to receiver for the Crusaders, and part of the puzzle that has helped them beat some returning championship teams early.

A player who hasn’t had a lot of recognition but deserves it is the Hawks junior pass catcher Burden (6’1″ 180), who s averaging a monstrous 40 yards per catch through four games, with 8 catches for 289 yards and 3 touchdowns. He’s been a big play deep threat for the Hawks using his speed, concentration and great hands to haul in pass from his QB who has a big arm. He’s still developing as a receiver but has all the tools needed and is a player to watch over the course of the next year.
