After Davison defeated De La Salle last week, I had to go see what they're all about. I made the 2.5 hour drive down to Davison and was treated to a game with a ton of standouts. This article will serve as a scouting report for Davison, including some of the most impressive players I watched!

Ben dominated this game. It's no surprise as he's a BIG 10 prospect, but still worth a shoutout. Against an above-average D1 D-Line, I never saw Ben miss a pass block. Every pass set I have for Ben starts and ends with him stiffing the opposing defender right at the line, not allowing a single inch. I have to say- there were some inside runs where Ben struggled to lock onto his defender. Especially when asked to block at the second level. He needs to improve his agility a tad and get good at engaging with linebackers. Still, an impressive performance and its obvious why Michigan State offered him!

Sawyer has been QB1 for Davison thus far, and he had a very up-and-down night. He had the case of the under-throws last night. Some being pretty egregious while others being slightly under-thrown, but still giving the DB an opportunity to recover. Sawyer also had his fair share of good throws that were dropped or grazed by a defender. Sawyer stepped it up later in the game and ended up getting in a groove, throwing in all areas of the field with good accuracy. He was able to get the ball out relatively quickly and evade pressure in the rare instance there was any.

WR | [player_tooltip player_id='603747' first='Braylen' last='Naves'] | Hudl

Out of all the great Davison receivers, I thought Braylon looked the best. I love his initial release, athleticism, and overall route-running. Braylon is explosive off release and is able to win separation right off the jump. I watched Braylon run a ton of vertical routes, and his speed alone was oftentimes enough to win separation. The fewer short-intermediate routes also looked great, and it's obvious he has Division 1 type of athleticism. He did have a case of the drops (as did several Davison players). There was one vertical route that looked like an easy TD dropped, but looking at my video I can see the ball barely graze the DBs fingertips, altering the course of the ball ever so slightly less than a foot away from Baylon's hands. Is that still a catchable ball? Yes. Harder than it looks? ABSOLUTELY. In fact, I would bet a lot of NFL receivers would drop that ball.

I see a ton of screens thrown to him on last year's film, and I'd love to see more successful speed-in-space plays going forward this season. Braylen only had two catches for 54 yards, but that does not reflect his performance. I believe Braylon has division 1 potential, though I just off one game I see him as a great GLIAC prospect.

RB | [player_tooltip player_id='602282' first='AJ' last='Hill'] | Hudl

AJ was another Davison player who got his number called a whole lot more in the second half. Once his number started getting called, that's when Davison started to pull away. There were multiple instances of AJ being utilized as a speed-in-space player in the passing game as well as inside runs that he was able to turn into explosive plays. This is a prototypical elusive back. AJ probably won't run anyone over, but he'll juke five guys on the way to the endzone. He's a patient, athletic runner who's able to stop and accelerate on a dime while constantly moving north instead of east, west, or south. His game is pretty well-documented at this point, as he's widely considered as a MAC prospect.

I've sung the praises of Carter many times, and I'll keep doing it. Carter is one of the most vocal and passionate football players I've ever had the pleasure of scouting. He's everything you'd want in a linebacker from the intangibles side of things, and truly a player you get a completely different perception of after watching in person versus on hudl. Carter is a field general on defense, getting players where they need to be, calling out keys, playing extremely fast, and giving it his all every play. As Jim and John Harbaugh often say, they want players who attack each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Carter has that enthusiasm about football. Watching him watching film on the sideline, you can tell he's got tunnel vision and he's 150% locked into the game.

Carter and the entire Davison defense were a tad slow to react to the Wing-T especially earlier. Though they got their bearings after a while. Still, once Carter could diagnose who had the ball, he reacted quickly and made sure he was in on the tackle. Specifically with runs that Grandville attempted to bounce outside, Carter was great at reacting and making a tackle in the open field. There were a few plays where he was blocked and I have one missed tackle on film, but I saw way more excellent plays than I did poor. Carter is currently committed to Miami (OH), and I think he'll be an extremely high-upside player in the MAC.

Jaxson came in late in the 4th quarter when the game was already won. We didn't get to see too much from Jaxson, but I'd still like to mention what I liked. Jaxson had a few designed QB runs where he was patient, ran through his holes, and did his best to fall forward. He also completed one pass that I saw, a perfectly accurate short route with a ton of zip on the ball. I'm extremely excited to see him eventually get much more Varsity play time.
