Focusing on the Northeast corner this week, this area of the state has so much exciting football being played every week. There’s a lot of focus on the Fort Wayne schools for obvious reasons, but also stepping outside the city limits, you will see hundreds of outstanding student-athletes absolutely balling out. These four athletes, predominantly on the offensive side of the ball, are individuals that, if you haven’t heard about yet, you have got to watch them compete!
This season has been far from expectations for the Concordia Cadets as a team. However, junior wide receiver Avery Cook Avery Cook 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Concordia Lutheran | 2025 State IN has been putting his best foot forward to this point. As one of Concordia’s top playmakers, Cook has scored 8 touchdowns to date and is averaging 103 yards per game. He displays numerous traits that explain how he is having a solid individual season. The first thing you notice on his tape is his speed. He has the ability to simply run past defenders and make himself open. The next thing you notice is his agility and quickness. He’s twitchy and can put opposing defensive backs on their heels when making cuts. Most importantly, Cook is a sure-handed receiver. Throw it to him and he’ll catch it. Avery Cook Avery Cook 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Concordia Lutheran | 2025 State IN is a playmaking receiver that turns heads, regardless of other factors outside of his control.

James Hardy James Hardy 6’3″ | 200 lbs | WR New Haven | 2024 State IN is so fun to watch for the undefeated New Haven Bulldogs. He’s lengthy, standing at 6’3″, and he makes plays on both sides of the ball. In week 6 against conference foe Columbia City, Hardy made his presence known, helping the Bulldogs stand alone in first place in the NE8. The dual-sport senior finished with 14 tackles (8 solo) and tallied ten of them in one half! On the offensive side of the ball, Hardy averages nearly 30 yards a game and has found paydirt twice. He is all over the field on Friday nights. It will be interesting to see how he continues is upward trajectory from here, coming off the teams biggest win of the season to date. I anticipate you’ll hear plenty about James Hardy James Hardy 6’3″ | 200 lbs | WR New Haven | 2024 State IN as the season progresses.

The Churubusco Eagles recorded their second win of the season in week 6, taking care of Fremont, 46-3. Junior running back Angelo Ianucilli may have had one of the best games in the state, carrying the ball 16 times for 354 yards! Not only that, Ianucilli posted 6 touchdowns! He was the man of the night and played a game that will remain in Churubusco football lore for the foreseeable future. Averaging 22 yards per carry is insane. Ianucilli will be treating his offensive line well this week as they were parting the Red Sea all night long. I look forward to seeing how Ianucilli builds on this record breaking game in week 7.

Nestled up near the Indiana/Michigan border, the Lakeland Lakers are putting together a solid 5-1 season to this point. Leading that charge is sophomore running back, Sean Conley Sean Conley 5’11” | 170 lbs | RB Lakeland | 2026 State IN . With 89 carries, he has amassed just over 1,000 yards on the ground, averaging 11.3 per carry. A week ago in a blowout win against Central Noble, he tallied 103 yards and two touchdowns, bringing his season total to 14 in that category. Most notably, all the way back in week 3, he did what seems to be impossible. Conley carried the ball just four times, but ran for a very efficient 248 yards! That’s 62 yards per carry. He also scored four touchdowns. So, every time he was handed the ball, he took it to the house. Absolutely incredible. Conley has everything you look for in a star running back: speed, agility, great vision, etc. Being only a sophomore, Conley’s outlook is so, so bright. He’ll be a fun follow throughout the rest of this year and beyond.
