Summer Spotlight: Northern Indiana Prospects With Big Potential

There aren't many camps and no games to attend right now, but that doesn't mean we at Prep Redzone are sitting on our hands. On the contrary, we are hard at work. All throughout the summer, we'll be taking a look at some top returning starters and young prospects who will make a big impact as the season rolls around this fall, spotlighting several prospects. Here is our summer scouting notebook featuring prospects from Northern Indiana.    Jay Torres is a starting Class of 2027 cornerback for Crown Point High School. Torres is a strong cover corner who can come out of a backpedal effectively and break on the ball. Primarily playing zone coverage, Torres flashes good ball skills and can cover/carry routes against bigger receivers effectively. Torres is strong on special teams, specifically on kickoff coverage where he is quick to get downhill, run and deliver big hits.     Knox Johnson is a quarterback for Bishop Luers High School. The 6-foot-1, 158-pound quarterback is very good at throwing on the move, rolling out and buying time with his feet to elude rushers and pull the trigger. He plays on a state-championship winning program, and I would expect his role to grow over the next couple of seasons. Keep an eye on his development.     Xavier Vice is a starting quarterback and running back for DeKalb. He is likely a running back at the next level. Vice displays great top-end speed and ability to run through contact as a tailback. He maintains good balance in space. Like a pinball, he can bounce off tackles and still stay on his feet to get positive yards past the second level. He has some upside as a Class of 2028 recruit and should continue to grow and get better.     Marquis Ballard is a starting safety for Warren Central. The Class of 2027 defensive back is an instinctive downhill hitter who takes great angles to the ball. He displays good closing speed, and is a solid open-field tackler. Uses length well to shed blocks and defend the flat. Keep an eye on him during college camps.
