Continue ReadingThrough 4 weeks of games there has already been tremendous output across the board by numerous players within the state. Below are a way-to-early list of run stuffers who are in contention for the state’s run stuffer of the year. With so many to pick from, I only limited myself to select five to highlight
With teammate Malachi Handberry Malachi Handberry 5’11” | 250 lbs | DL Rancocas Valley | 2024 NJ setting the tone on the defensive line, Peterson’s got his back on the second level. Another fierce defender from the Red Devil’s front, Peterson has started the season to a tune of 56 tackles. Moreover, 8 of these tackles were for a loss and he has sacked the quarterback 3 times.
Hamilton is probably the heartbeat of the Tiger’s defense. As he goes, their 33 stack roars. In four games thus far Hamilton has obviously stuffed the run with his 55 tackles (16 solo); however, out of all the run-stuffers on today’s list Hamilton has shown the ability to make big plays at the highest rate. He has 8 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and forced two fumbles thus far. Hamilton also pitches in on offense with 18/131 on the ground and 5/40 through the air in a very run-first oriented offense.
With 133 tackles last season, rational sense would figure Hinton’s statistics would only regress to the mean. This, however, is not the case for the leader of Union’s defense. In four games thus far, Hinton leads the state with 61 tackles. Amazingly, 42 of those tackles have been solo tackles and he has 3 tackles for loss to as well. Hinton is getting an opportunity to tote the rock a bit more this season, going for 280 yards and 3 scores on 31 carries this season.
Linthicum is the only underclassman, a sophomore for that matter, to make today’s watchlist. Oakcrest’s man-in-the-middle is atop the state’s tackling leaderboard with 57 tackles – 37 of which have been solo tackles. Linthicum also makes plays behind the line of scrimmage too, having made 9 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Something tells me that Linthicum will be on this list for the next several years.
Highlights
Magliacano is leading a staunch Trojan defense for St. Thomas Aquinas that has only let up 27 points through four games thus far. A playmaker in his own right, the senior has been credited with 52 total tackles. He makes plenty of plays for loss too, having made 15 tackles in the backfield, 2 sacks, forcing 1 fumble, and blocking 1 kick so far. Magliacano also contributes on offense to the tune of 97 yards and 1 score on 7 attempts.
