Scrimmage Notes From Around District 3

On Saturday, I talked to several coaches, players, and reporters about scrimmages around District 3. Below is a recap from some scrimmages and some stand-out players from the different scrimmages.   Wilson vs. Coatesville        Wilson brings back a lot of talented players this year. They went toe to toe against Coatesville and competed at a very high-level Saturday at the scrimmage. That is a good sign because Coatesville is a talented team. I especially think Wilson's offense has a chance to be very special. They have several talented linemen in [player_tooltip player_id='377188' first='Jack' last='Dendall'] and [player_tooltip player_id='377346' first='Logan' last='Kurzweg']. Plus a returning quarterback in [player_tooltip player_id='558777' first='Tommy' last='Hunsicker']. Hunsicker has several weapons returning including tight end [player_tooltip player_id='263070' first='Brady' last='Kline'] and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='558776' first='Edison' last='Case']. I expect Wilson to compete in the highly competitive Lancaster-Lebanon Section 1. Manheim Township and Hempfield will both be very good as well. It should be a fun Section 1 race.   Penn Manor at Elizabethtown        Penn Manor did a good job at Saturday's scrimmage against Elizabethtown. Penn Manor was able to take control of the line of scrimmage and at times dominate. Elizabethtown lost a ton of good players off last year's team, so Elizabethtown is in the rebuilding stage of its program. Penn Manor's [player_tooltip player_id='855930' first='Dhamir' last='Wesley'] is one of the best players in the Lancaster-Lebanon League and a recent Villanova commit. [player_tooltip player_id='647813' first='Collin' last='Robinson'] is a talented player who is in a quarterback battle with [player_tooltip player_id='1848461' first='JJ' last='Boas']. Boas is off coming off an ACL tear last year and just recently got cleared to return to play. [player_tooltip player_id='618724' first='Jack' last='Warfel'] is another talented player for Penn Manor who is going to play wide receiver and defensive back for Penn Manor. On the other side, [player_tooltip player_id='281273' first='Brayden' last='Huber'] is a returning quarterback for Elizabethtown and I expect him to have a strong season next year as well. Penn Manor is trying to compete in the Lancaster-Lebanon Section 1 and it will be a tough uphill battle. Elizabethtown might drop back from their record of 8-3 last year.   Trinity vs. Berks Catholic vs. Lancaster Catholic                    Wow, what a Tri-Scrimmage this was between Trinity, Lancaster Catholic, and Berks Catholic. Trinity is an absolutely loaded football team and in the words of the one coach I talked to he said this about Trinity "They can win a state title this year". [player_tooltip player_id='386280' first='Messiah' last='Mickens'] the number 1 player in the 2026 class barely played and Trinity still dominated the scrimmage. By the way after the scrimmage Mickens committed to Penn State. Trinity also has Carlisle transfer [player_tooltip player_id='164516' first='Jeremiah' last='Hargrove'] at running back as well. He is talented as well. Plus they have quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='257219' first='Caleb' last='Wray'] back and many other players as well. Head Football Coach Jordan Hill over the last 3 years has transferred this program into State power.   Berks Catholic is a team I think should have a chance to be much improved over last year's record of 5-6. They bring back a bunch of good players like [player_tooltip player_id='259537' first='Connor' last='Pennington'] at linebacker, Nathanial Rose at running back and [player_tooltip player_id='386271' first='William' last='Hess'] at quarterback. [player_tooltip player_id='855330' first='Joey' last='Polinsky'] is a talented tight end/offensive tackle. Berks Catholic held its own against Lancaster Catholic in the scrimmage. Berks Catholic is competing in the highly competitive Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League. I expect them to be improved from last year.   Lancaster Catholic is a team who had a great season last year starting 10-0 and winning the new Section 5 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, but they lost a ton of good players off last year's team. They will be led by [player_tooltip player_id='706111' first='Elijah' last='Cunningham'] an elite running back, [player_tooltip player_id='915421' first='Charlie' last='Warren'] at wide receiver, [player_tooltip player_id='711012' first='RJ' last='Gonzalez'] at wide receiver. Also, super talented Brandon Way Jr is back as well to play cornerback and running back. They are breaking in a new quarterback, so Lancaster Catholic is going to lean on the run game. Lancaster Catholic was very cautious at the scrimmage as they did not want anyone to get hurt, but showed solid progress at the scrimmage. I expect them to be the favorite again in Section 5 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
