It was difficult to analyze as there were so many talented players across all positions that it was hard to narrow it down to a few. The same will be said when looking at the 6A division class as it is the highest division in the state. Although we have found top-tier talent coming from all the lower divisions, the most competitive programs play in the 6A class, which means some of the best of the best play in it. With that being said, we will be listing some offensive prospects to watch for this season coming from the 6A division class.
Walker Meredith
Walker Meredith
Walker Meredith is an impressive running back prospect who specializes in exploiting the defensive gaps and bolting past opposing defenders. Meredith, a 5’9 170lbs 2024 grad from Central Hardin High School had an excellent 2022 season. In 13 games, he picked up 917 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns off 92 carries (10 rushing yards per carry; 2nd in state in this category). Walker has such an advanced ability to read the defense and find their weak spots before each carry. Even if it is not a run play designed to make a defensive gap, Walker always seems to find himself running room to enable him to speed past the initial defensive front. Once Meredith breaks past the front line, it is extremely difficult for the secondary unit to take him down due to his top speed being hard to match. Along with that, Walker makes great sharp cuts that enable him to maintain top speed when trying to create separation. As of now, Walker has held no offers, but I believe that can change by the end of this season.
Journey Wyche Journey Wyche 5’10” | 185 lbs | ATH Ballard | 2024 State KY is a highly athletic and exceptionally crafty running back prospect who is amazing at creating big-time offensive plays with extremely low odds to succeed. This is a lot due to how talented Journey is at creating separation and juking past attempted tackles. Wyche, a 5’11 188lbs 2024 grad from Ballard High School had an impressive 2022 season. In 14 games, he ran for 938 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns off 113 carries (8.3 rushing yards per carry). One of the best running back prospects in the state at creating separation solely with his shifty play, Journey is an exciting player to watch every time he steps foot on the field. Along with his amazing lateral quickness and footwork, Wyche can also break the defense with his speed. Even with a narrow running lane, Journey can break through the gap, and nobody is going to be able to catch him to the endzone. Currently, Journey has received a few D1 offers, and I expect more will come through to him by the end of this current 2023 season.
Trenton Cartwright
Trenton Cartwright
Trenton Cartwright is a fantastic dual-threat quarterback prospect who can create a lot of yardage on drives using his strong arm and his legs. Cartwright, a 6’0 160lbs 2024 prospect from Bryan Station High School, had a remarkable 2022 season in the passing game and the run game. In 14 games, Trenton completed 57.1% of his passes for 1,982 passing yards and a 17:7 passing touchdown/Interception ratio. When he was not throwing, Trenton ran for 598 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns off 82 total carries (7.3 rushing yards per carry). Although it is already safe to say that Trenton has numerous ways of escaping pressure created by the defense, what is remarkable about his game is his field vision. When throwing the ball, Trenton is amazing at anticipating the movement of the secondary and finding open gaps in their zone alignment before his receivers move to those spots. This has enabled him to make big-time throws to his receivers. When running, he inherits a similar type of running perception as many great running back prospects. Right before the defense can get to Trenton, he can effectively read the defensive gaps and create run lanes for himself to get through. Along with his overall athleticism and skillset, Trenton’s game IQ and field vision make a huge impact on his overall talent. Right now, Trenton has held a few college visits and I expect him to receive more interest and offers by the end of this 2o23 season.
Antonio Harris Antonio Harris 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Louisville Male | 2025 State KY is one of the best in the state at performing at the highest level on both sides of the Football. Although his skills are top-tier, I want to highlight the top-tier value he holds on to the receiving end. Harris, a 6’0 170lb 2025 grad from Louisville Male High School had a great 2022 season offensively. In 14 games, Antonio caught 36 receptions for 684 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns (19 receiving yards per reception). Because Antonio plays so well as a defender in the secondary, he can easily transfer those skills to his offensive skill set. Antonio’s route-running footwork is highly impressive for a prospect who still has 2 full years left of high school Football. Along with that, Harris has lightning-fast acceleration and possesses insanely fast lateral movements. When attempting to create separation, Harris can make abruptly sharp cuts without losing his top speed, which many receivers have a hard time keeping. Antonio is an amazing receiver prospect who should be considered as a high recruit for receiving coaches at colleges, along with his primary recruitment as a DB. With a few D1 schools already offering Antonio, I have no doubt he will receive more soon.
Kolter is a remarkably talented QB prospect who possesses dynamic skill sets that enable him to big plays for his team no matter how tough the opponent is. Smith, a 6’0 190lb 2024 grad from Louisville Male High School, had a fantastic 2022 season. In 12 games, Kolter completed 58.3% of his 96 total passing attempts for 871 passing yards and a 12:4 passing touchdown/interception ratio. For splitting time with his prior teammate Lucas Cobler, Kolter was able to make a huge impact on the Bulldogs with his impressive style of play. Coming into his senior year, Kolter is taking the mantle as the captain of the offense and has a lot in his arsenal to show for it. Smith possesses a strong throwing arm that he uses to make deep and precise throws without needing much lower body momentum. Along with that, Kolter can see the field well and has excellent reflexes to react to a change in motion on the defense to improvise and make a big conversion. The trait I have liked the most since last seeing Kolter play is his ability to make plays with his legs as opposed to just his throws. Smith has been great at escaping the pocket and making big plays either throwing on the run or gaining big yardage through a QB carry. In his most recent game against rival school, Ballard, Kolter put up a great performance as he completed 70% of his passes for 237 passing yards and 4 passing touchdowns in a blowout Male win. Right now, Kolter has attended numerous camps and has received much interest, but I believe more will be pouring through by the end of this 2023 season.
