Future Field Generals: Kentucky’s Young QBs

He's got a strong arm that can stretch the field, but he isn't just trying to overpower every throw. His footwork is good for a younger quarterback, he has a quick release, and he shows good ball placement when throwing into tighter windows. I like how he handles pressure too. He doesn't panic when the pocket starts closing and will stand in there and take a hit to deliver the football. He can throw with anticipation and get the ball out before his receiver fully comes open. He does a good job setting his feet and getting the ball out quickly instead of holding onto it too long. He's got good ball placement, especially on throws over the middle where he can hit guys in stride and give them a chance to create after the catch. He seems to know where he wants to go with the football and gets it there on time. He can feel pressure, escape when things start to break down, and keep plays alive without immediately taking off to run. I like that he keeps his eyes downfield while moving around. He's comfortable delivering the ball off platform and has the raw arm talent to make just about every throw on the field. He's not the most polished quarterback yet, but you can teach and clean up a lot of that. He keeps defenses honest with his legs and isn't afraid to take off when he sees an opening. He can rip off big runs and seems to find a way to keep the chains moving when a play starts to break down. I like how comfortable he is throwing on the run too. He can escape the pocket, keep the play alive, and still deliver the ball with some accuracy. There are some things to clean up as a passer, but the athleticism gives him something to lean on while that develops.
