Preseason Prep Redzone Ranking: UR
Preseason Coaches Ranking: UR
The Maysville Warriors have made seven consecutive trips to the playoffs and that’s the most in school history. They are hungry to make it eight consecutive appearances this fall. Last season, the Warriors would go 8-4 and they actually finished third in the district but still found a way to make it to the quarterfinal round before losing to eventual state champion Tipton. The Warriors would begin the first half of the season with a 4-1 record with the only blemish on the schedule being a week one loss to former district foe Mt. View-Gotebo. They bounced back from that with three straight wins. A close shootout loss to Thackerville in week six would put them behind the eight ball in the district. They lost again to Maud in week eight and that all but ended their district title hopes. But the Warriors would win their final two games and finish third in the district. They would go on the road in the first round and beat Wilson 36-30 to make it to the quarterfinals. The season came to an end there after losing to Tipton. But the Warriors are ready to take the next step in 2023 but it could be another bumpy road.
It could become bumpy because this is going to be a rather new squad on both sides of the ball. The Warriors bring back just three starters on the offensive side of the ball and another two starters on defense. While we like the starters they bring back because they have a really good mix of skill players and linemen with size, it’s still going to take a while for those new starters to get worked in and get used to playing at the varsity level against other top Class C teams. But despite losing the majority of their starters, the Warriors are optimistic that the combination of returning skill players and new young talent will be enough to contend in the district. That’s going to be another thing to watch out for this season as Maysville has a chance to contend for the district championship. This district appears to be completely wide open right now and the Warriors showed last season that even if they don’t win the district title, they can still have playoff success. But we think that the Warriors are going to be right there in the mix for the district crown when we reach the final weeks of the regular season.

Players To Watch
2024 standout Bryce Shannon Bryce Shannon 5’10” | QB Maysville | 2024 OK might have a new role as we head into the 2023 football season. Last year, Shannon was one of Maysville’s top skill players on offense. He finished the year with over 1,000 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns on the ground. He also had over 300 receiving yards and five touchdowns as he was an absolute weapon on offense. But now, Shannon is listed as a quarterback on the roster and it looks like he’s making the move to the quarterback position as they look to replace last year’s starter. There’s no doubt that Shannon gives the Warriors a running threat at the position but he’ll also have some good targets to throw to this fall.
The second 2024 prospect to keep an eye on is James McGregor James McGregor 6’1″ | WR Maysville | 2024 OK at the wide receiver position. McGregor gives the Warriors some good size on the outside as a big target at 6’1. He put up some really strong numbers last season with over 800 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. McGregor is also listed as a defensive back and will probably see time on defense but there is no doubt that he is the most valuable on the offensive side of the ball as a skill player in this Maysville offense. As the Warriors work in a new quarterback, McGregor is going to be a massive target in the passing game and should be a big part of their success on offense.
More Names To Know
Brock Driscoll – 2024 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Gavin Martin – 2027 Defensive Back
Kevin Alviso – 2025 Running Back/Linebacker
Noah Alviso – 2026 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
2023 Schedule/Games To Circle
Aug. 25 – Bray-Doyle
Sept. 1 – Mt. View-Gotebo
– After being district rivals from 2018-2021, Maysville and Mountain View-Gotebo were put in separate districts in 2022 but that didn’t stop them from playing. These two met in non-district play last season and Mt. View-Gotebo continued their success against the Warriors. In the last five years, Mt. View-Gotebo has been perfect against Maysville with a 5-0 record and the closest game was a 2-point win back in 2018. Maysville will host Mt. View-Gotebo early on in the season this year and this is a perfect “measuring stick” game for the Warriors to see where they stack up in Class C.
Sept. 15 – AT Alex
Sept. 22 – Graham/Dustin
Sept. 29 – AT Fox
Oct. 6 – Thackerville
Oct. 12 – AT Sasakwa
Oct. 20 – AT Maud
– Week eight is going to be critical for Maysville’s hunt for the district championship. They’ll hit the road here and take on a Maud team that ran away with the district championship a season ago. The Warriors fell 52-6 to Maud as they were perfect in the district slate and are looking to return to the top of the district mountain this season. These two teams met last season for the first time since four consecutive meetings from 2014-2017. The Warriors do hold a slight edge in the recent series with a 3-2 record against Maud. A win here will put them in a great spot in district.
Oct. 27 – Bowlegs
Nov. 3 – AT Paoli
Notable
In 2014, Maysville made the successful transition from 11-man football in Class A to 8-man football in Class B. They would go 10-2 in their first season playing 8-man ball and they would spend four seasons in Class B before dropping down to Class C, where they’ve been ever since. And there is no doubt that 8-man football has been a good thing for the Warriors. In the last nine seasons of playing 8-man football, the Warriors have had just one losing season and that came in 2018. In the four seasons prior to dropping down to Class B, the Warriors won just four games total and had a 4-36 record in their final four seasons of playing 11-man football. Now, the Warriors are determined to make it back to the playoffs and if they can win a wide open district, they will set themselves up for further success in November.
