The St. Marys Blue Devils made the short trip to Doddridge County to face the Bulldogs at the beautiful Cline Stansberry Stadium on a rare Wednesday night game for the WVSSAC 2023 Kickoff Game to begin the new season. Weather pushed back kickoff 20 minutes for the rainy and foggy game that saw a close first half before the Blue Devils pulled away in the 4th quarter by a score of 34-14. Both teams graduated large chunks of their production a season ago but there are plenty of names to know on both sidelines. Here are the offensive players that stood out during tonight's clash of the Blue Devils and Bulldogs.

QB: [player_tooltip player_id='1125434' first='Ryan' last='Kent'] '25

The Blue Devils started 2025 QB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1125434' first='Ryan' last='Kent'] at quarterback to begin the 2023 season and the junior signal caller had some bright spots leading his Blue Devils to a big opening win. Kent started off the game a bit quiet but really got going in the second half. He had a beautiful touchdown pass to [player_tooltip player_id='1104876' first='Ashton' last='Boron'] on a wheel route out of the backfield with pressure directly in his face and a nice lob over a defender that dropped right in Boron's hands. Kent also had a 2-point conversion throw to cut the Doddridge County lead to 6 points in the second half before the Blue Devils took over the game. Kent also darted for a 24-yard TD run that put his team in control. Overall, he managed the game well and led his team to a big victory over a yearly contender in Doddridge County.

RB: [player_tooltip player_id='1104876' first='Ashton' last='Boron'] '24

Had fellow '24 teammate [player_tooltip player_id='370470' first='Josiah' last='DeMoss'] not had an incredible game, Boron would have been my game MVP. He had an interception off a DeMoss deflection in the first half but it was on offense where he shined. Boron had multiple runs of 10+ yards including a couple of 20+ yard runs and had well over 100 total yards for the the game. He also hauled in the aforementioned touchdown pass from [player_tooltip player_id='1125434' first='Ryan' last='Kent'] on a wheel route. Boron also added a touchdown run and was the Blue Devils' best offensive weapon tonight.

RB: [player_tooltip player_id='1229722' first='Logan' last='Eddy'] '25

[player_tooltip player_id='1229722' first='Logan' last='Eddy'] should be the next star running back after Boron graduates and the 2025 athlete had a couple of really nice plays tonight. Eddy is a smaller but shifty running back that has good speed and agility. He had a highlight 17-yard TD run which saw him rip off two pretty spin moves on his way to the end zone. Look for him to get some more touches as the season goes on when Boron needs a breather.

Doddridge County Bulldogs

QB: [player_tooltip player_id='867726' first='Brysen' last='Dixon'] '26:

The young 2026 signal-caller saw the highs and lows of being a first-time starter at the varsity level. Dixon battled it out all summer with Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1119457' first='Brandon' last='Hileman'] and freshman [player_tooltip player_id='864599' first='Evan' last='Cross'] before eventually getting the nod as QB1 in the season opener. Doddridge County ran a two QB system tonight with Dixon and Hileman being more of the running option. Dixon showed some good things tonight but also knows he has plenty to work on throwing 3 interceptions. However, Doddridge County's very promising RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='908996' first='Talyn' last='Snyder'] missed most of the game with an injury which halted their rushing attack to take some pressure off the young Dixon. Dixon showed calmness and poise at times and delivered some good balls with pressure in his face and was very good at throwing on the run. He had a nice TD throw to the opposite side of the field and a big back-shoulder throw on third and long in the two-minute drill. He will bounce back and improve from this game but showed signs of developing into a good varsity QB.

QB/ATH: [player_tooltip player_id='1119457' first='Brandon' last='Hileman'] '24

The second of the two QB system was senior [player_tooltip player_id='1119457' first='Brandon' last='Hileman']. The 5'9 150 versatile Hileman is more athlete than QB and can help his team at WR and on kick returns. He threw an interception and was limited in the passing game but did some good things as a running QB. He has speed and can make plays outside the tackles on direct QB runs or option plays. Whether Doddridge County continues using the two QB system or not, Hileman will help them as an athlete at other positions.

RB: Seth Cass '24

2024 running back Seth Cass performed admirably after [player_tooltip player_id='908996' first='Talyn' last='Snyder'] went down with an injury early in the game. Cass had a very nice catch out of the backfield in the flats then made two defenders miss before earning a first down. He also had a nice bobbled catch on third down later in the game that gave his team a much-needed first down. Hopefully, Snyder's injury is not serious and can return next week but if not Seth Cass can fill in and make some nice plays if needed.

WR: [player_tooltip player_id='1137704' first='Jerod' last='Trent'] '26

The passing games were not setting any records tonight but 2026 WR Jerod Kent caught the sole touchdown pass of the game for Doddridge County. He was the recipient of Dixon's opposite-field 17-yard touchdown throw streaking across the end zone in the first half. Trent also saw some jet sweeps and you can tell he has some speed and athleticism that they can use on the edge. Keep an eye on him this season and beyond.
