We had a great turnout at the spring PRZ West Virginia Exposure Series showcase, featuring nearly 100 prospects ready to turn some heads.

The last position I am evaluating is the defensive back group, which was small in number and even had some offensive guys flip sides, but produced some breakout athletes:

DB MVP

George Washington's [player_tooltip player_id='2135145' first='Demajaih' last='Spencer'] had quite the eye-opening showcase performance that resulted in him earning DB MVP honors. Spencer started things off with a solid testing portion, posting marks of 4.47 on the shuttle drill, 7.18 on the L-Drill, and 4.82 on the 40-yard dash. Demajaih really impressed with his technique, showing a very sound skill set and great discipline in coverage. He showed off his strength a bit when pressing DBs, showing he can jam them up to disrupt timing. He uses his length to his advantage by making sure to get his hands up to defend passes and poke balls out through the catch process. Good footwork during his backpedal, fluid hips to change direction, and solid recovery speed. Demajaih looks primed to break out this season.

Woodrow Wilson's [player_tooltip player_id='897527' first='Javontae' last='Wynes'] showed why he's one of the top overall ATHs in West Virginia. The offensive weapon flipped to the defensive side of the ball to fine-tune his DB skills and more than held his own throughout the day. Wynes tested well with a 4.62 shuttle drill, 7.22 L-drill, 8'8" broad jump, and a 4.89 40-yard dash. Javontae has solid size for the DB position at 6'1" and 200 pounds with the type of length coaches will look for. Being the biggest DB of the group, Javontae was able to really get in the opposing receiver's face with his physicality, especially when challenging them within five yards of the LOS. He leverages himself well and doesn't give receivers a lot to work with as they try to set up/stem their routes. Solid mobility as he mirrors receivers with a quick change of direction and great range. Check this guy out ASAP!

Hoover's [player_tooltip player_id='1221854' first='Shannon' last='Mitchell'] brought the juice to The Bridge sports plex, locking up receivers in 1v1s. Mitchell posted top 20 marks in each combine drill with a 4.90 40-yard dash, 4.47 shuttle drill, 7.28 L-drill, and a 9'4" broad jump. Watching Shannon play, I was very impressed by his physicality, especially given that he was younger and smaller than several receivers in attendance. That didn't stop him from showing off his ability to play press and force receivers off their route. He is able to use his hands very well to get inside a receiver's frame, then uses his strength to redirect them off their routes. He possesses elite ball skills that resulted in a PBU or interception on nearly every 1v1 rep. Good mobility with clean footwork and fluidity in transition. Young baller in the making!

We'll end with another youngster in incoming sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2208565' first='Adam' last='Banire'] out of Spring Mills. Adam had a good testing portion where he posted a 4.80 40-yard dash, 4.62 shuttle drill, and a 9' broad jump. Having just wrapped up his freshman campaign, there are still some raw areas to Adam's game, but the skillset and upside are definitely there. Adam, like the guys listed above, really enjoyed being physical with receivers and did a good job challenging them at the catch point. He plays with good footwork, good hip bend, and shifty change of direction. With more reps to gain experience and a summer in the weight room, this could be a huge offseason for Adam!
