This is definitely the biggest in-state grab we’ve seen in a long time, and a great thing to see some of the top AZ talent stay home. Not only is it a big name from AZ heading to Tucson, but this could be the bigger piece of the domino to really push U of A over the top with recruiting and continue to see more 4 and 5 star kids head that way because of the commitment they landed from Williams. Williams has been a popular, highly touted athlete that made a name for himself as a freshman in AZ, turned that Basha program into a state championship caliber team (Won open division title in 2022), and really made a name for himself nationally as one of the top dual threat QB’s.
Williams sizes up with a slender build at 5’11” 180lbs with room to add mass without sacrificing athleticism and possesses a lean, athletic frame. Electric, live arm with an effortless release as he can let it rip downfield with just a quick flick of the wrist. His patience had improved drastically from his freshman to sophomore year, and then his Jr. year was just a completely dominant performance every week, as he checked every box you could ask for in a prime time P5 recruit. A fast rising and quickly developing kid that has just continued to make those “wowing” plays both with his arm and with his legs. As a ball carrier, Williams possesses excellent twitch, burst, and shows that top end speed in the 2nd level to be that big play threat and finish long runs. He’s as electric as it gets at the QB position here in AZ, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a legit shot to start early once he steps foot on campus in Tucson. An absolutely massive grab for the Wildcats.
