Today we are looking at our first Western Nebraska school in the McCook Bison. McCook has had decent success over the last few years with a total record of 43-20. Recently they have changed divisions and are now in division C-1. Last season was their first season in Class C-1 and like other schools that dropped down, they had a lot of success ending the season with a 10-1 record. They really dominated last season winning most of their games by a significant amount. The Bison outscored their opponents 414-154 in the 2022 season. The Bison have some newcomers coming up who will have to step up if they want another season like last year. McCook is one of many small-town teams that people need to look out for. Like many other small town schools they can get looked over compared to the media attention that the bigger schools and cities get. The Bison have a chance to take on the rest of their division and take it all the way to Lincoln in 2023.

McCook's Schedule

@ Cozad

VS Gothenburg

@ Broken Bow

VS Holdrege

VS Sidney

@ Ogallala

VS Alliance

VS Adams Central

@ Chadron

Players to Look Out For

[player_tooltip player_id='720941' first='Canyon' last='Hosick'] QB, OLB, P

Canyon is a solid jack of all trades. Like any other small-town football player, he plays all over the field. As QB he has 11 complections for 217 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, he has 61 carries for 210 yards averaging 3.4 yards per carry, and 5 rushing touchdowns. Not only that he has 5 receptions for 32 yards. His stats get more insane when you look at his defensive stats where last season he was one of the Bison's leaders with 97 tackles averaging 8.8 tackles a game. Along with his tackle stats, he also has caught 2 interceptions, a fumble recovery, and a caused fumble. Canyon will have to step up to new roles this season and he will be a huge part of the Bison's gameplan.

[player_tooltip player_id='704084' first='Brett' last='Fraker'] LS, CB

Last season Brett was a rushing machine. He had 73 carries for 631 rushing yards. Averaging 8.6 yards per carry for a total of 10 touchdowns. He also has 7 catches for 142 yards averaging almost 20.3 yards per catch. Brett also has 371 yards returning kicks over his career. On defense, he had a total of 32 tackles last season with a total average of 2.9 tackles a game. He also had one interception.

[player_tooltip player_id='1031391' first='Patrick' last='Gross'] K

A solid kicker for the Bison, [player_tooltip player_id='1031391' first='Patrick' last='Gross'] is a constant. On offense, he is as effective a lead blocker as anyone. He and Brett create a dynamic duo that leads to more yards and more touchdowns.
