After breaking down some explosive standouts on the offensive side of the ball, it’s time to kickstart our evaluations of some highly explosive defensive playmakers. Without any further ado, here’s my list of the top 2027 defensive backs in the state of Kentucky to watch for.
Highlights
At the top of my list of notable performers is Carson Herbst Carson Herbst 6'1" | 170 lbs | DB Madison Central | 2027 State KY , a 6-foot-0, 155-pound defensive back at Madison Central High School. Herbst was a highly explosive contributor for Team Kentucky, proving himself as a reliable defensive weapon in the backfield. In addition to excellent size, speed and defensive toughness, what stands out about Herbst is versatily and ability to bully receivers out of position. Another aspect of Herbst that caught my eye was his flawless footwork and ability to quickly turn around and get in prime position to intercept the quarterback. After a commanding performance, Herbst is without question an intriguing defensive back prospect in the Bluegrass State to watch out for as he begins his high school football career.
Claiming a second place finish on my list is Jordan Haskins Jordan Haskins 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Bryan Station | 2027 State KY , a 5-foot-11, 165-pound wide receiver and defensive back at Bryan Station High School. With an array of skills and experience on both sides of the ball, Haskins was a significant piece of Team Kentucky’s defense. With impressive size, speed and versatility, Haskins executed quick off the snap and stayed with his man down the field, using his physicality and athleticism to stun receivers and reject deep passes. Another aspect of Haskins that impresses is his ability to adapt to the play and use his hops to get up for picks. After an impressive performance, Haskins is definitely a high-level playmaker to keep an eye on as his high school career kicks off.
