IOWA CITY, Iowa – We’ve reached July. A new high school football season is right around the corner.
To help get us prepared, we’re listing seven top players returning at each position in all seven classes. You can read about the quarterbacks, running backs and receivers as the links above.
We’re continuing on at tight end. We’ve reached Class 2A:
Logan Rosauer, ’24, Union Community – The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Rosauer paced the Knights in receptions (20), receiving yards (319) and touchdown catches (2) as a junior in 2022. He intercepted three passes on defense. When watching his junior highlights, you see a pass catcher that is a difficult matchup with his size and speed. He runs crisp routes and adjusts well to the ball while it’s in the air.
Thomas Meyer Thomas Meyer 6'5" | 210 lbs | ATH Clear Lake | 2025 State IA , ’25, Clear Lake – One of the top recruits for his class in the state regardless of position, Meyer (6-5, 205) already reports scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota and Wisconsin. As a sophomore in ’22, he secured 28 catches for 309 yards and four touchdowns. You only need watch the first clip on his junior highlights to see a very high ceiling. He’s a strong route-runner and stands out as a receiving tight end right now. I think he’s capable of playing defensive end at the next level as well.
Cole White, ’24, Clarke – At 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, White certainly looks the part. He creates matchup issues when you watch his game highlights against Shenandoah. He benefits from a big frame with athleticism whether he’s running routes and catching passes or blocking in the running game. He grabbed two touchdowns among his 13 receptions totaling 113 yards. He also delivered a Pick 6 on defense.
Cael Reichter, ’25, North Fayette Valley – As a sophomore last season, Reichter (6-5, 180) chipped in with five catches for 100 yards. He shows off his athleticism with a 28-yard catch against Oelwein. He proves he can get behind defenders with speed on this 24-yard grab against Union Community.
Hayden Tripp, ’27, Oelwein – Tripp (6-0, 145) caught a modest three passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in ’22. However, he was just a freshman. He also returned five kicks for 69 yards. The only film on his Hudl page is from a game against Jesup last year. It contains intriguing clips that show off his quickness at the snap and speed in the open field. Tripp is definitely one to keep an eye on this fall.
Chase Lee, ’24, Northeast – Lee (6-0, 180) registered 15 catches for 192 yards and a touchdown last season on a team with strong wideouts. His Hudl profile page only contains basketball highlights. He certainly shows the athleticism in that sport that translates well to the gridiron.
Kole McCormick, ’24, Waukon – At 6-foot-3, 175 pounds, McCormick provides his quarterback with a big target. He caught 13 passes for 182 yards last fall. He contributed 25.0 tackles (18 solo, 2.0 for loss) and three interceptions on defense. His Hudl page does not contain any highlights.
