Today will be part two of Monongalia County. Here are some prospects you need to keep an eye on in Monongalia County for the 2023 season.
Luke Hudson
Luke Hudson
The 6’3 175 2024 QB had a very solid junior season in 2022. Hudson took over the reins full-time last year and put up some good numbers for the University Hawks. He threw for over 2,300 yards and 17 touchdowns while leading his team to a WV AAA playoff berth. Hudson is a very athletic quarterback with good size and has the arm talent to play QB at the next level. He does a nice job using his mobility in the pocket and is always a threat to take off downfield. Hudson has really nice touch on his throws and his throwing motion looks effortless. He does a nice job when throwing deep balls and puts the ball in a position that only his receiver can get. Hudson also showed the ability to hit out routes and post routes effectively.
With a full season of being the starter under his belt, Hudson should have a big senior season for the University Hawks.
Morgantown High’s Caleb Nutter Caleb Nutter 5’11” | 210 lbs | LB Morgantown | 2024 State WV is a true throwback kind of player. Nutter plays fullback and linebacker for the Mohigans and is a big piece of his team’s Wing-T offense. The fullback position is vital in that scheme and Nutter is a big reason for its success. He’s a very tough runner who won’t blow you away with his speed but will not go down on first contact very often. Nutter will brush would-be tacklers off and fight for those tough extra yards that are critical in that style of offense. With that being said, he is not slow by any means and can certainly hit the hole hard and get up-field quickly. Nutter is also a very physical blocker and an unselfish player that doesn’t mind doing the dirty work for his team. He is a true throwback player and a joy to watch playing an often-forgotten position.
Josh Jorge
Josh Jorge
Trinity Christian makes its first appearance of the Monongalia County Spotlight series with 2025 WR Josh Jorge. Jorge is a 5’11 170 WR and RB for the Warriors who can be used in a variety of different ways. You can line him up out wide or in the slot and even put him in the backfield as a running back. Jorge is an overall good athlete who you just want to get the ball in his hands and let him do his thing. He has enough speed to get to the corner and they got him the ball on pop passes and sweeps last season where he did well. Jorge can also do damage in the slot as a more traditional receiver that can make plays after the catch. He’s also a starter on defense seeing time from corner and safety to linebacker. It’s tough to project which position he ends up at in college but right now I like him the most on offense as a versatile athlete. Jorge had nearly 700 all-purpose yards and 9 touchdowns last season.
Andrew Phares
Andrew Phares
Morgantown High’s Andrew Phares has been on an absolute tear during the summer camp season. The 2024 Mohigan has made a name for himself at various college and prospect camps and I was able to see him in person for the first time this past weekend at the GCOH Performance Exposure Camp. Phares is a 5’9 160 route running technician who is very quick with some twitch to him. He is a nightmare to cover 1-on-1 and won many of his reps in camp on Sunday. Although his team runs the Wing-T offense, Phares was able to put some good things on film last year and looks to have an even bigger senior season. He was rewarded with numerous D2 scholarship offers this summer so far from his great performances in camps. Andrew Phares is a name you need to watch for in the 2023 season.
Seth Drvar
Seth Drvar
University High’s Seth Drvar is an absolute mauler of an offensive guard. His entire two-minute junior highlight video is all pancakes. You won’t find one clip in the video where he’s not putting a defender on his backside. Drvar is a very physical blocker who loves to assert his will on opposing defenders. He does a great job keeping his feet moving after initial contact and driving them where he wants them to go. Drvar has a devastating first punch that’s powerful enough to put defenders on the ground on its own. He’s also athletic enough to pull and get to the second level of the defense and block downfield. Drvar isn’t the biggest offensive lineman at 6’1 280 but is a very strong athlete whose strength makes up for his size. He can play both guard spots and also center if needed.
