Winona State Standouts II

It was a great representation of what the Midwest has to offer the next level, especially the D2 level. Today, we have eight more athletes that stood out from the crowd and caught the eyes of scouts and coaches. Brady checks in around 5'10u0022 175 lbs and has proven to be a versatile weapon out of the backfield. At Winona's camp on Sunday Brady once again showed off the receiving threat that he is out of the backfield. He ran and won routes to every level of the field. Brady's hands were as reliable as the athletes I watched over in the WR group. He high pointed the ball when he went deep down the field. Kuhn fought through contact to make and maintain the catch. Brady was a mismatch for LB prospects. It was a great one on one session for him. This time around I kept a close eye on him in the 1 on 1 battles. Reiland was a menace for the LB group to run with. His compact, strong frame is already developing next level body control and fluidity. Body control and fluidity that allows him to change direction on a dime and accelerate out of breaks quicker than LBs are usually able to. It was impressive watching him go up against a majority of upperclassmen and still win reps. His soft hands were the cherry on top of all his pre-catch attributes. Make sure Kaaleem is firmly on your radars. He has been on a Junior Day visit, holds an offer from the warriors, and has now attended one of their camps. Jae'Shaun was great to see in person. He has a great frame to continue to built upon. His arms are long, and his film still has space to add strength to. The standout lineman has next level flexibility in his lower body. His ankle and knee flexion allowed him to drop his pad level and use leverage to his advantage. Even at that pad level, Thomas demonstrated quick feet to drive DL off the ball. He also has a strong first punch that allowed him to control his man from the first contact. I knew he was going to be must watch when I saw him on the prospect list, and Cole didn't disappoint. The 6'1u0022 235 lbs DL is an intriguing prospect. He doesn't have elite size, but his understanding of technique and the power he is able to generate looks college quality. Cole first stood out with his quick grasp of the hand fighting drills the DL did in individual time. He was accurate with his strikes, and demonstrated heavy hands. Legas also stood out during one on ones. He proved to have a firm understanding of how to use leverage to his advantage. He got underneath OL and could bull rush them off the line. Cole also demonstrated quick lateral agility to win with lateral movement during his rush. The 6'1u0022 235 lbs DL is a powerful prospect, despite not being of the prototypical size. His upper body strength stood out from the crowd during the one on one battles. On a rep to rep basis I was impressed with how well Walker was able to land his initial punch on the center of his man's chest, and then pressing them away to create separation. As the day went on Walker made strides in using pass rush moves to capitalize on that separation. Powers also has equal strength in his lower body.  His bull rush was able to walk OL off the ball, and he capitalized on the leverage his frame gave him. Beau is a stoutly built RB at 5'9u0022 195 lbs. Even with his powerful frame, Beau impressed me with his work during the RB drills. His ability to smoothly cut, juke, or spin demonstrated his strong body control. The soon to be senior RB also impressed in the battles. He had enough speed to make it tough for LBs to run with him in man coverage. His hands also impressed as he plucked the ball out of the air away from his body. He first caught my eyes with his athleticism. Caleb jumped 33.2u0022 in the vertical. That was just a glimpse into what his film shows. That is a dual threat at the QB position. An athlete who can hurt a defense on the ground, but still relies on his arm first and will instead use that mobility to buy time. Thinesen also impressed me with solid arm strength. Enough arm strength to be able to attack the short and intermediate levels with velocity and deep downfield with touch. Not surprising after seeing that he is one of the best TEs in the Class of 2024 coming out of IA. The 6'2u0022 200 lbs TE first impressed with his body control and route running in the TE drills. He was able to change direction, cut, and accelerate out of cuts very smooth and naturally. It showed up again as he started running routes. Kannon has been a mismatch for LBs through the early part of camp season and it continued in Winona. He was able to run away from LBs in the open field, and his route running may have caught defenders off guard with how easy he made his breaks. Bork also showed that he can make the catch through contact. A name to know out of IA.
