Continue ReadingThe Classic 8 has long been viewed as the top conference for WI HS football. The battle for the Conference Championship is always tight, multiple teams always seem to make deep runs in the playoffs, and we have seen a lot of State Champions be crowned within the conference. With this being the deepest, most talented, and highly competitive conference in the state there is no question the individual talent must be very high. Today, we are going to go through that talent, team by team, and identify who we think will be the MVP for each of the eight teams.
Arrowhead MVP
Right off the bat we have a very difficult choice. It came down to ’26 RB Jacob Siner Jacob Siner 5’8″ | 165 lbs | RB Arrowhead | 2026 State WI or ’25 QB Vance Holtz Vance Holtz 6’2″ | 210 lbs | QB Arrowhead | 2025 State WI . Both already hold FBS offers, and I expect to see them both play on Saturdays down the road. So I really had to dig in. After looking over the team, and seeing how talented the OL is going to be, I believe that Arrowhead is going to look to establish the run and set the tone early and often. Siner will be the one to capitalize on those opportunities. His speed, agility, and instincts for the position are all elite level traits. Pairing his vision with the Arrowhead OL should result in some big numbers and plenty of wins for Arrowhead as they look to make a run at a Conference Championship and State Championship.
Kettle Moraine MVP
This was another difficult choice. Kettle Moraine is looking for a new leading passer and rusher this season. The hard part in identifying an MVP for this team is the talent is so evenly spread out. They will have a dominant OL. They have multiple LBs to know, and college talent in the defensive backfield. However, you have to score to win, and I believe they will continue to look to the dominant WR Drew Wagner Drew Wagner 5’10” | 170 lbs | WR Kettle Moraine | 2024 State WI lead the offense and get the ball up and down the field. The kid is a cheat code, and will be the key piece to their success this fall. If you love WR play, watch the Navy commit.
Mukwonago MVP
This is another tough choice. Mukwonago will be looking to find a lot of new production as RB Wynn Stang graduates and heads to Madison. Mukwonago will also be starting a new QB. The defense also has a lot of positions to replace. With so much turnover we will look to their strongest point. Their OL, and leading the way is the best OT in the state. Nathan Roy Nathan Roy 6’5″ | 275 lbs | OL Mukwonago | 2024 State WI will be headed to Minnesota in 2024, but until then he will be opening up massive holes and leading the way for the Mukwonago offense as they look to get back to state. The run game will be key to their success, and Roy will be leading the group opening up lanes.
Muskego MVP
Ashton Krause
Ashton Krause
Muskego is another one of these teams who have multiple candidates for Team MVP. For Muskego it could be TE Aiden Krause Aiden Krause 6’4″ | 215 lbs | TE Muskego | 2024 State WI , LB Jack Ploeckelman Jack Ploeckelman 6’0″ | 190 lbs | DB Muskego | 2024 State WI will be flying around the defense, but in the end I believe we see Ashton Krause have the biggest impact out of the backfield of Muskego. He scored 13 TDs on just 63 touches in 10 games in 2022. If we see his touches increase, then so will his impact. That leads me to think that the talented RB/LB/ATH has a great shot at being team MVP when the season ends.
Oconomowoc MVP
Oconomowoc is returning a lot of key contributors from last season. They return their QB, leading rusher, and 4 of their top 5 receiving leaders. They also return one of the best defensive players in the state. With so many weapons on an offense that seems to spread it around I decided we might not see one standout from the crowd. On defense, however, we have an athlete who has been an impact player and stood out from the crowd. Klein is coming off a 10 sack, 14 TFL season. For Oconomowoc to break through in the Classic 8 they will need the defense to step up. Klein is at the top of that group. If he can match those numbers or even increase them we will see the Raccoons be very competitive in 2023.
Waukesha North MVP
This came down to a two man race in the end. It was either QB AJ Curtis AJ Curtis 6’0″ | 180 lbs | QB Waukesha North | 2024 State WI or WR Elijah Mead Elijah Mead 5’11” | 160 lbs | ATH Waukesha North Highschool | 2024 State WI . Mead looks to be more in position to be the team MVP because Waukesha North does like to go to the air often. However, they graduated two of their top three leading receivers. That leaves a huge void to be filled. With Elijah being the go to option now, we will need to see him put up big numbers for his team to find consistent success this fall. He has the talent to do it too. A breakout season could be incoming.
Highlights
Waukesha South MVP
Chris has had a great camp cycle, earning multiple offers from the D2 level. I believe he carries that success over into the season. Flowers is a two way player, and the Blackshirts are going to need him to excel on both sides of the ball for them to have consistent success. He was the leading receiver in 2022 and is a CB you can trust on your opponent’s WR1. I believe he will be up to the challenge and should have one of the more impressive two way stat lines that we see this fall. Keep an eye on the DB/WR this fall as he leads Waukesha South on the field.
Waukesha West MVP
This was another difficult choice. It came down to three options. QB Cael Eide Cael Eide 6’0″ | 180 lbs | QB Waukesha West | 2024 State WI , RB Dominic Williams Dominic Williams 5’8″ | 165 lbs | RB Waukesha West | 2024 State WI , or LB Brady Fleming Brady Fleming 6’0″ | 195 lbs | LB Waukesha West | 2024 State WI . Eide is the returning QB1, Williams is the leading rusher of the returning athletes, and Fleming will need to step up at the LB position after seeing multiple graduations at the position. In the end, Dominic Williams Dominic Williams 5’8″ | 165 lbs | RB Waukesha West | 2024 State WI won out. West ran the ball roughly twice as often as they threw it. Knowing that, and seeing that Williams is next up I have to believe he will be the key to the offensive success.
