Since our last recruiting updates (here and here) earlier this month, there have been several other noteworthy college prospects from the Garden State that have announced their commitment status.
A massive body just came off the recruiting board. Interior offensive lineman Deron McLaughlin Deron McLaughlin 6’5″ | 260 lbs | OL Park Ridge | 2024 State NJ announced via his Twitter that he is not just 100% committed, but actually 152% committed to UConn. The Park Ridge standout picks arguably the best blend of academics and big-time college football by deciding to join Jim Mora, Jr. and the Huskies.
Highlights
Washington, who can profile as either corner or safety, will be catching I-295 off of I-195 out of Camden in route to West Long Beach as he will join Monmouth University in the fall of 2024. He chose to stay local, picking the Hawks over FBS programs Akron and Temple. He held offers from Long Island University and New Hampshire as well.
The only thing “small” about this next prospect might just be his last name. At 6’6″ 285lb the Old Tappan prospect Jack Small Jack Small 6’7″ | 280 lbs | OL Old Tappan | 2024 State NJ is not a small man by any measure, nor does he have a small brain. The likely offensive tackle has committed to Duke. The ACC’s Blue Devils beat out Ivy league schools (Brown, Yale, and Princeton), prestigious academic schools (Columbia and Dartmouth), and FBS schools with high academic profiles (Vanderbilt, Virginia, UConn) all of which offered him as well.
Another Soaring Eagle has just landed. Union City’s star running back and defensive back Tyler Koffa Tyler Koffa 6’0″ | 175 lbs | DB Union City | 2024 NJ has decided to commit to Morgan State University. This is a big get for the Bears, as Koffa can impact the game in a variety of ways in all three phases. It is unclear what other offers he held, but he will be playing FCS football next year at the popular HBCU.
Coming off of a season where they beat the eventual Group IV state champs, Irvington is chomping at the bit to regain the Group IV title. Richardson, arguably their top safety, will have a lot to do with that; however, after his prep career is done he will be joining fellow Garden State standouts Micah Ford Micah Ford 6’1″ | 205 lbs | ATH Tom Rivers North | 2024 State NJ and Emanuel Ross Emanuel Ross 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Red Bank Catholic | 2024 State NJ in the Golden State as the trio of skill players will be playing for Stanford University. The Cardinals beat out several other top academic universities, including Duke, Boston College, Penn State, Michigan State, and Wake Forest for his services.
