Finishing 2022 with a 6-6 record and a loss to Bergen Catholic in the semifinals, Delbarton is set to return a lot of talent in 2023 and will look to advance even further in the playoffs this fall.
If you are familiar with any of my past articles, you know I view Ryan Trafford Ryan Trafford 5’11” | 210 lbs | RB Delbarton | 2024 State NJ as an underrated and extremely talent RB for Delbarton. Part of the stacked 2025 class for Delbarton, Ryan put up really impressive numbers as a sophomore last season. He is a very decisive back, making calculated choices and not wasting time trying to out maneuver the defense. He has quickness when he needs it, and is comfortable lowering the shoulder to fight for those last few inches. With 20 touchdowns and close to 2000 offensive yards, don’t be surprised if he surpasses both of those numbers his junior year, and colleges start calling him up.
Johnny Riley
Johnny Riley
Johnny Riley is the kind of player you want commanding the middle of the field for your defense. A member of the 2024 class as a MLB, Johnny has great size (6’3″ 220lb) and the characteristics needed to excel at the next level. An old school linebacker, Johnny is a true run stuffer as he fights off blockers and wraps the runner up fully, preventing them from gaining another inch. He is a technically sound tackler, and one of the most impressive middle linebacker tapes I’ve seen thus far.
With 99 total tackles in 2022, 3 sacks and an interception to go with it, you can see why Johnny has made such a big impact for his program. A very intelligent individual, Johnny currently holds an offer from Cornell and has gone on visits to schools with similar academic standards. He should be getting more D1 offers in the next couple months.

Phillip Folmar Phillip Folmar 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Delbarton | 2025 State NJ
Phillip Folmar Phillip Folmar 6’0″ | 170 lbs | WR Delbarton | 2025 State NJ is a player I have covered a few times already, and for good reason. A stud receiver, he is also part of the young group of talent that will be graduating in 2025. Phillip is extremely reliable and utilized heavily in the short pass game. With quick steps that tangle up defenders feet, Phillip gets them convinced he’s darting downfield, only to turn around, catch a short route, and make guys miss once the ball is in his hands. With a combination of speed and great hands that doesn’t come around often, Phillip will outrun defenders as he makes impressive catches up and above the defender. Look for Phillip to flourish his junior year at Delbarton.
Connor Martin Connor Martin 6'4" | 250 lbs | DL Delbarton | 2024 NJ
Connor Martin Connor Martin 6'4" | 250 lbs | DL Delbarton | 2024 NJ
Connor Martin Connor Martin 6’4″ | 250 lbs | DL Delbarton | 2024 NJ is a defender that needs more recognition. A 2024 defensive end for Delbarton, Connor reeked havoc on linemen as he continuously gave them multiple reasons not to want to line up across from him. He will come out of his stance from a low, explosive position, and will jack up the lineman and drive him back a few feet. Sacking the QB 2.5 times in 2022, Connor will most likely double that number his senior year with the pass rush he is capable of.
Running his direction is no easy task either. Connor will disrupt any path or hole the offense was hoping for, and pursue to make the tackle; just like he did 61 times last season. Look for his numbers to jump even further in 2023.
Kyle Checchio Kyle Checchio 5'10" | 195 lbs | LB Delbarton | 2025 NJ
Kyle Checchio Kyle Checchio 5'10" | 195 lbs | LB Delbarton | 2025 NJ
Kyle Checchio Kyle Checchio 5’10” | 195 lbs | LB Delbarton | 2025 NJ compliments Johnny Riley‘s play very well. Playing OLB for Delbarton, he is another sound tackler with very little hesitation in his play. He is a very quick decision maker and flies up field when the play advances his direction. He just seems to have a nose for the football and really understands where he needs to be to make the play. With 49 total tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 sacks last season, offenses have very little success when they run the ball his direction. Get Kyle an offer before it is too late.
