There were players putting up lightning quick times in the 40 yard dash. Just when my jaw dropped at a time that a player finished with, another player would come along and top that one. Out of all of the prospects that stood out, I am going to talk about the quickest 40 yard dash times by position for the defensive players. I am also going to include other notable standouts that might not have been the quickest at the position. Lets find out who made the list.
Ethan Shelton Ethan Shelton 5’9″ | 175 lbs | DB Piedmont | 2025 State OK dominated the event with blazing speed, competitiveness, and a quick reaction time. He showed off the ability to have elite athleticism that helped him win the DB Most Valuable Player of the showcase. Not only did he dominate defensively, he had the two quickest 40 yard dash times. His first attempt he recorded 4.47 and then the second attempt was 4.41. The next highest time at his position was 4.63 by Zachery Warren Zachery Warren 6’1″ | DB Mustang | 2024 State OK . What an elite showing by him in this showcase, both with the drills and with his play.
Highlights
Marquis Casper Marquis Casper 5’11” | 225 lbs | DL MacArthur | 2024 OK had the two quickest times for all of the DLs. He recorded 4.97 on his first attempt and then 4.98 on his second attempt. He had solid numbers across the board for all of the drills, but he really showed out on the 40 yard dash. With his speed, it will be intriguing to see if it translates into productive results, as he heads into his senior year next season.
Highlights
Taylor Sowers Taylor Sowers 5’10” | 175 lbs | LB Coweta | 2024 State OK showed superior athleticism in every drill at the showcase. He had the second quickest time out of any linebacker with 4.63 on his first attempt. On his second attempt, he recorded 4.66. This time is tied for the third fastest time at his position. His all-around combine numbers are frightening good and will make it intriguing to see if it translates onto the football field for Coweta heading into his senior season. All of the athleticism is there, now does he piece it together to start making a name for himself.
Jared Kappenman Jared Kappenman 6’0″ | 205 lbs | LB Edmond North | 2025 State OK put up great numbers throughout the whole combine. This includes him having the fastest time for a 40 yard dash out of any of the linebackers. He is taller and bigger than Sowers, who I talked about above, but he also showed speed to go along with that. On his first attempt, he recorded 4.69. That is not great compared to his second attempt, which he recorded 4.57. That 4.57 is the quickest time of all of the linebackers. It was impressive watching him dominate at the showcase. That is nothing new for him, as he is the #51 ranked player and #6 linebacker in the class of 2025. He makes a big impact for Deer Creek. It will be interesting to see how he continues to improve over the next two years.
Highlights
Rafe Tackitt Rafe Tackitt 6’3″ | DL NOAH | 2024 State OK has good size at 6’5, 196.4 pounds. He plays both the defensive end and tight end positions, so his size with good speed is scary for opposing teams. On his first attempt, he recorded 4.9. He followed that up with an even better number on his second attempt, recording 4.71. It will be intriguing to see if it translates to success on the field, as he heads into his senior season.
Reece Lucas Reece Lucas 6’1″ Broken Arrow | 2024 OK tested extremely well for a linebacker in the 40 yard dash. He has average height for a linebacker, but has good speed. His numbers looked good throughout the whole combine, but in the 40 yard dash he recorded 4.66 and 4.75. It was an impressive display by him, as he showed the ability to quickly accelerate and have good speed.
