Most of these kids form the CHSFL JV league due to the fact that it is the most competitive JV league in New York. Because the transition to varsity is not easy to project, and the outcomes can lead to inconsistent results, some of these guys could jump way high up the rankings with strong seasons. Either way, their JV careers are in the past and are names you should watch this fall.
Malachi McCaskill Malachi McCaskill 5’11” | 180 lbs | RB Kellenberg | 2025 State NY was kept on JV because of a huge 2023 graduating class and there is a really chance he becomes a solid prospect in the CHSFL this fall. McCaskill definitely is undersized but has legitimate elite speed. McCaskill is a smooth runner who finds running lanes well and does a good job of making quick cuts upfield to maximize yards gained. A really solid prospect, with all these transitions up a level it is hard to project players ability but McCaskill is a name to watch.
Tavion Byrd Tavion Byrd 6’1″ | 175 lbs | QB University Prep | 2025 State NY is a really promising young quarterback prospect out of Rochester and has some really solid recruitable measurables. Byrd is long and lean and has some really impressive arm talent. Byrd will be the engine of a UPrep offense that has a ton of playmakers. Byrd is in for a big season and could be a name that blows up this fall not just because of his measurables and skillset but the potential to be the most potent offense in Rochester with several talented playmakers by his side.
In terms of production, there were not many who matched Michael Dietrich Michael Dietrich 6’0″ | 165 lbs | WR Chaminade | 2025 State NY for Chaminade. Dietrich has had a strong offseason with a strong showing at the Elite V showcase and the WR could easily become Chaminde’s top target. Dietrich is a smooth athlete with good measurables and all signs indicated that he will have one of the smoother transitions to Varsity out of players from this list. Just as the case with McCaskill a strong 2023 from Chaminade was a roadblock for earlier varsity reps.
Highlights
Levi Altshuler Levi Altshuler 6’0″ | 190 lbs | QB Iona Prep | 2025 State NY was one of the most impressive JV quarterbacks in New York last season. The Iona Prep signal caller will likely find himself in a QB competition this fall but with really good arm talent and some really advanced poise and patience in the pocket Altshuler is some really quality traits. Altshuler does a good job of working in rhythm and is a really quality pocket passer. As an athlete Altshuler is not a huge threat with his legs but does have the athleticism to move in the pocket and adjust making throws on the run.
Matt Davitt Matt Davitt 6’1″ | 180 lbs | ATH Iona Prep | 2025 State NY has elite speed and one of the most transferable traits to a higher level is speed. Davitt will be amongst a strong WR group at Iona Prep and opportunities may be limited but there is clear potential here. Davitt has the speed and is a good route runner and really solid production wise. A prospect to watch who is also an elite performer in track and field.
Highlights
Donovan O’Toole Donovan O’Toole 5’8″ | 145 lbs | WR Kellenberg | 2025 State NY could be the most interesting prospect here due to how limited he is due to size but there is not a player with more elite quickness and twitch than O’Toole. A really quality route runner O’Toole can mov quicker than most if not all the DBs in the CHSFL. The size will be a concern but there is a very unique niche potential for O’Toole and he is a guy to keep an eye on.
Highlights
Geoffrey Galloway Geoffrey Galloway 5’11” | 175 lbs | DB Iona Prep | 2025 State NY steps onto varsity with an Iona Prep team that returns several quality defensive backs. Galloway is a really strong in coverage and does a good job of mirroring receivers. Galloway is a name to watch this fall and could eventually grow into the role of DB across from Terron Johnson Terron Johnson 5’11” | 165 lbs | DB Iona Prep | 2025 State NY and continue Iona Prep fielding really strong cornerback duos.
Highlights
Brayden Smith Brayden Smith 6’2″ | 165 lbs | QB CBA-Syracuse | 2025 State NY ‘s path to a starting role is blocked by Matt Porter, but Smith has good size and arm talent and will get some quality varsity reps. Smith, like Porter will have to put it all on the field his Senior year and there will be eyes watching as CBA-Syracuse has a strong 2025 class and Smith will be able to perform alongside. Quality traits and a name to know as the season goes on.
