Continue ReadingThere were 400!!!! New Additions to the 2024 rankings. (Actually a few more than that with some kids transferring away from NY). There is a very wide range of additions and although most were on the backend of the rankings there are some legitimate talents who were on my radar and took a big step forward or who I learned of and were already very unknown yet very talented prospects in the state. Overall these rankings are meant to showcase the depth of this class and how some of these New Additions fit right in with some of the top talent in the state.
Roosevelt Mitchell Roosevelt Mitchell 6’3″ | 315 lbs | OL Medina | 2024 State NY was a very new name to me recently and when you look at the frame, the tape, and the recruiting interest a couple D1 schools may have unearthed a gem in Western New York. Mitchell is a very high debutant on our rankings into the top 20. Mitchell is a prospect who could really blow up over the summer camp season.
Erasmus Hall producing top defensive backs comes to no surprise and after graduating a really solid DB class Josira Andrews Josira Andrews 5’10” | DB Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY is the leader of the group. Erasmus Hall has a ton of guys to replace this year in the defensive backfield but with Andrews at the safety spot Erasmus Halls most reliable cover man will be the last guy back. Andrews has some really good abilities in coverage where he reads the quarterback well and closes quickly on the ball. A really talented player who with the spotlight on him this season could jump up these rankings with a strong season.
Alex Chrostowski Alex Chrostowski 6’6″ | 270 lbs | OL Bronxville | 2024 State NY , like Mitchell was a new name to me recently but the Bronxville Tackle is one of the smoothest pass blockers in the class. He has great length but his lower half moves much quicker than most OL in this class. Powerful and quick make for a really nice combination for an OL. No wonder he has a couple offers and interest already.
Anthony DiMenna Anthony DiMenna 6’7″ | 275 lbs | OL Sachem North | 2024 State NY is like a Tree and although still very lean is one of the more refined blockers fundamentally in this class. DiMenna had a great performance at the Elite V showcase where he was a top peformer and consistently won reps against some of the best competition. DiMenna has interest and offers and could be one of the most sough after FCS players this cycle.
Adam DeSantis Adam DeSantis 6’3″ | 240 lbs | DL Maine-Endwell | 2024 State NY was the the top defensive player on a state championship Maine-Endwell team and his ability to use his upfield burst and power to win on the LOS is amongst the best in this class. DeSantis has a couple FCS offers and looks to build off that with a strong summer and fall senior season.
Louis Martinez Louis Martinez 6’2″ | 230 lbs | DL Monsignor Farrell | 2024 State NY was a new name to me after watching Yasire Dejesus Yasire Dejesus 6’2″ | 220 lbs | DL Monsignor Farrell | 2024 State NY . Martinez is a really solid edge rusher who has good hip fluidity and dominants with his hands. He just got his first offer from Pace and I expect that to be the start of something bigger for Martinez.
Ratu Delano Navoti Ratu Delano Navoti 6’3″ | 265 lbs | DL Xavier | 2024 State NY was featured in one of my recent recruiting reports as he became the third D1 commit from New York. Delano Navoti lives in the weight room and it shows on the field where is power and strength moves players consistently. Delano Navoti was a standout in the CHSFL AA2 division last season.
Chauncey Mims Chauncey Mims 6’0″ | 180 lbs | ATH Curtis | 2024 State NY returns to the PSAL as one of the top playmakers from last season. Mims is dangerous with the ball in his hands and can make guys miss consistently. A really solid athlete and one of the top WR/ATHs in this class, Mims is a really solid FCS prospect who should perform well at any camps he heads to this summer.
Quadir Mceachin Quadir Mceachin 6’0″ | 200 lbs | LB James Madison | 2024 State NY is a really athletic linebacker prospect out of James Madison and he even played some TE last season. The top LB from the Elite V showcase demonstrated some really advanced coverage skills both in press and off coverage against a group of really quick twitchy backs. Mceachin is a really solid LB prospect who debuts in a solid spot in our rankings.
Highlights
Christopher Smith Christopher Smith 6’3″ | 235 lbs | DL Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY is a name that could get lost amongst the stacked Erasmus Hall group of defensive lineman but if you see him at camps he stands out more than nearly every other defensive lineman. You can see the Erasmus Hall coaching in his reps where he has an evident pass rush plan and uses his hands to win relying on his athleticism and quickness as a secondary to winning with hands/arms. Smith is dangerous as a pass rusher and should be getting some attention this fall.
Jacob Jimenez Jacob Jimenez 6’3″ | 325 lbs | OL Canarsie | 2024 State NY is moving from Christ The King to Canarsie where he will bring his mauling of DL to the PSAL. Jimenez is big and strong and does a good job of moving guys 1v1. He blows holes wide open and does a good job of finishing defensive lineman to the ground. As a pass blocker, Jimenez shows promise although better footwork and quickness would help. There are some really nice flashes of pass protection against bull rushes where he strength usually comes out on top. A solid OL prospect in a stacked group of OL in 2024.
Hezekiah Mercado Hezekiah Mercado 6’3″ | 300 lbs | OL Kenmore West | 2024 State NY is one of the best NT prospects in this class. He can play on both sides of the ball but I really like what he does on defense where for a player his size can shed blocks really well and knows how to finish plays instead of just disrupt them. Mercado has the size for the next level but refining some of his skillsets could really put him on the map of FCS and local coaches. Mercado would rank as the #2 or #3 NT in this class if our position grouping was that refined.
Christian Pilgrim Christian Pilgrim 5’11” | 225 lbs | LB Lincoln | 2024 State NY is a thick linebacker for Lincoln that although may be a little shorter has the burst and closing speed you want your LB to have. Good strength and power taking on blocks and the ability to finish in space are two of his strongest traits and he figures to be in the discussion in the top group of linebackers and amongst the best in the PSAL.
A weird one here who was mentioned in a recruiting report. Basketball star Boakai Veikai Boakai Veikai 6’4″ | 210 lbs | ATH Moore Catholic | 2024 State NY is gonna play his first year of football this fall but already has two offers from a practice that two D1 coaches where in attendance for at Moore Catholic. In other words, this kid is bound to be ridiculous after being offered based on one practice no tape. Coaches will monitor him this fall, but perhaps a name in the 100s who could end up closer to the 10s? A player to keep an eye on this fall.
This class has speed and one of the fastest is Brian Norman Brian Norman 5’10” | 170 lbs | ATH St. Thomas More | 2025 NewE . Norman is a really talented player on the field where his speed and change of direction make him dangerous as potentially either a WR or DB at the next level. A dominant senior season would help his recruiting but based on the athleticism alone, and the fact that his speed is verified on the track. Norman is one of the top athletes in this class.
Damon Stewart Damon Stewart 6’0″ | 180 lbs | ATH Moore Catholic | 2024 State NY is a really solid players with some solid offers right now. He projects as a solid FCS player and thats where his offers sit. The athleticism and ability to make plays in space are his best traits and the ability to take short gains and turn them into longer yardage gains using his speed to get to the second and third level are really solid. A talented RB/ATH who already has some good tape and opportunities in the bag.
A theme with speed and these rankings, Markell Thompson Markell Thompson 6’1″ | 150 lbs | WR Middletown | 2024 FL is a name to know. A track verified 10.5 100m is one of the fastest in the state and when you throw on the tape you see he is one of the best deep threats in New York. Speed and route runner are a dangerous combination and Markell Thompson Markell Thompson 6’1″ | 150 lbs | WR Middletown | 2024 FL has them both.
Presley Kafeero Presley Kafeero 5’9″ | 170 lbs | RB Franklin D Roosevelt | 2024 State NY was on my radar and earned his spot in these rankings. A really quick twitchy back who does everything a RB should well. As a runner, he has good vision and can find lanes well. As a receiving back he runs really crisp routes and has solid hands. As a blocker, he is not afraid to put his body in front of defenders and use his motor to win those reps. A really solid back with big play ability.
Victor Huttinot Victor Huttinot 6’0″ | 215 lbs | LB Iona Prep | 2024 State NY has the tough responsibility of being one of Iona Prep’s only returning LBs. As a prospect he already has solid athleticism and measurables and can make tackles in space. Taking the step from a player who does his job well to making plays outside of his responsibilities is something I am looking for this season. Huttinot has the traits to make this jump. Good tackler, good speed and change of direction, good working through blocks, and good a reading what is in front of him. Last years work earned him a spot here, this years work could keep that trajectory upward.
Blaine Zoller Blaine Zoller 6’4″ | 215 lbs | WR Ballston Spa | 2024 State NY has super intriguing measurables and honestly has a pretty wide range of where he could end up playing in terms of what level and what position. You see the height and think TE but Zoller moves really well and does a lot of work as a WR and is one of the best 50/50 ball guys in the class. He runs solid routes and is a good blocker I would go as far as saying there are not really any glaring holes in his game. A three sport athlete who has some serious talent on the football field and joins our rankings in a really solid spot.
