Mission Viejo High was the place to be for scouts and media last weekend and the players delivered with great performances.
Here were the quarterbacks who had standout performances at the camp Sunday:
MVPs
He is listed as a running back on Prep Redzone for some reason, but he is a quarterback and a very good one.
He earned MVP honors and has a very quick release. Whenever I looked up, he was dropping the ball in perfect spots and hitting receivers in stride.
Watson won the accuracy award at the event. The ball jumps out of his hand and he makes his release look effortless.
He has transferred from Coconino to a higher-profile program at Queen Creek. He should be getting some big offers soon.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Sayn was the MVP of the Elite 11 Regionals the week before and once again was great in every drill Sunday.
He wasn’t a MVP because he didn’t get a lot of open receivers in one-on-ones, but when you watch him in drills, it is easy to see why he is the top quarterback in the area.
Longstreet has a very strong arm for how quick his release is. He has put on some muscle since I saw him in the summer at Inglewood and he was drawing a lot of attention from the scouts.
Smith is very big in person and he can really put some zip on the ball.
He can fit the ball into tight windows and can throw from various arm angles. It was fun seeing the friendly competition between Smith and Sayin, the two top quarterbacks in San Diego.
Kollock was my sleeper pick for one of the top quarterbacks of the day. I have seen him in real games before and it was a pleasant surprise to see him fit right in with the top quarterbacks in the area.
He’s a big guy who knows when to throw hard and went to put touch on the ball.
Highlights
Curry could have also won the accuracy award. During the one-on-ones he was consistently hitting receivers in stride that he has mostly never thrown to.
He has one of the best deep balls in the class and he is a good athlete who can throw off-platform.
