What goes into the evaluation process?
Recruiting is limited for underclassmen, placing a large emphasis on a player’s perceived potential as a college prospect. When it comes to evaluating prospects, live competition provides the most insight into the talents and capabilities a player possesses.
The levels of play and competition are considered in the evaluation process of underclassmen. Just because a freshman or sophomore did not play on varsity does not mean their value as a potential prospect is lesser than the underclassmen on varsity squads. Everyone’s situation is different, which is also taken into consideration.
Lastly, it is important to note that physical attributes matter in the recruiting process, making them a factor in the evaluation process. It is no secret that Division I programs look for specifics when it comes to measurables, oftentimes at the expense of talents and skill sets.
A player’s recruiting directly impacts their ranking as a prospect, but it is extremely rare for a player’s ranking to affect their recruiting. All rankings prior to the final updated list for the seniors are subject to change with each update.
The Top Five 2025 QBs
The top five sophomore quarterbacks were ranked in accordance with their sophomore performances (regardless of the level of play), measurables , current interest from college programs, and the perceived college level at which they will potentially play.
Modrzewski has been on the radar for quite some time, but he supplanted himself as the top quarterback in the class during the offseason following his freshman year. The talented pro-style precision passer totaled 3,341 yards passing, the second-highest passing yards in the state at the completion of the 2022 season. He is a tall player who is surprisingly agile in the pocket. His pocket presence, including his unwavering calmness under pressure, impressed many onlookers last season. He has a big-time arm that enables him to throw bombs deep downfield, even when off-platform. His ability to be accurate on passes of all levels makes him a no-brainer as a potential Power 5 prospect.Modrzewski is a poised quarterback who has yet to show that he is capable of being rattled on or off the field, giving him the potential to become a nationally known prospect by the end of his junior year.

Stevens is easily the most under-the-radar quarterback in the entire state, making him an absolute must-know player. His playing style is built upon his outstanding instincts, natural talents, and promising skills. He has a solid set of mechanics for someone who has been in the position for a shorter time than some of his peers, adding to the perception that he has one of the highest ceilings in the class. He is a dual-threat quarterback with outstanding power in his arm. His natural athleticism provides him with the ability to make incredible throws while off-platform, but that does not mean he lacks the ability to throw from within the pocket. Stevens may not be the most polished quarterback just yet, but he is expected to become one of the top prospects in his class in the near future.
Highlights
Worley is the one quarterback among the top five who only has one varsity start under his belt, but that has nothing to do with him and everything to do with sitting behind one of the best senior quarterbacks to step foot on the gridiron last season. His sole start gave the state a glimpse at what he has to offer to the big stage by completing 17 of his 24 pass attempts for 268 yards and three touchdowns. He is a dual-threat player who throws and runs with immense power, a testament to his overall strength. He recently took an unofficial visit to the University of Florida, where he caught the eye of the Gators’ staff, earning a direct invitation to their prospect camp and real estate under a national spotlight. Worley is a player with high expectations and is on the verge of being one of the more talked about players in Colorado.
Highlights
Birch is perhaps one of the more polished passers in the state regarding his overall throwing mechanics. He is a mobile quarterback with the elusiveness and speed that make him a dual-threat, even though his playing style leans more toward that of a pocket passer. He has good footwork and accurate ball placement, giving him the potential to exceed expectations. His ability to extend plays with his legs while keeping his eyes downfield is very impressive, but it is a skill that is detrimental to his success because of his height. Make no mistake, he possesses D1 talents, but being a shorter quarterback gives many the perception that Birch’s ceiling resides somewhere around the FCS level.
Highlights
Closing out the top five-ranked quarterbacks is the one player on this list who helped lead his team to a semi-final appearance during the sophomore season. Cooper entered his freshman year as a highly-touted player with even higher expectations. His ability to use his arm and legs to challenge a defense makes him a legitimate game-changer.Cooper is in a situation where the offensive scheme of the Pine Creek program requires him to be more of a game manager than the gunslinging dual-threat quarterback that he is known to be, which shows his ability to be a versatile athlete. Cooper’s overall performance as a sophomore kept him among the top quarterbacks in the class and solidified him as a must-watch player going forward.
