Lone Star Recruiting News and Notes 4-4-23

It is that time of the week where we get caught up on recruiting news going on across the Lone Star State. We are going to highlight a few prospects that are making recruiting this week. We have plenty of news to take a look at.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='432374' first='Kevin' last='Sperry']-Quarterback-Rock Hill-2025-6'1” 195-Pounds</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Rock Hill signal caller does an impressive job of being able to move the pocket and make the throw. Sperry has the arm strength and the accuracy to make all the throws needed to run the offense. He does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field to make the throw. A couple of weeks ago Sperry made headlines by placing an oral commitment with the Oklahoma Sooners. Sperry is a quarterback to watch out for over the next couple of seasons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Drew Cunningham-Offensive Line-Southlake Carroll-2024-6'3” 280-Pounds</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Drew Cunningham is an extremely versatile offensive lineman that has played all along the offensive front. Cunningham has quick feet, and he displays the ability to get into an opposing defensive lineman quickly. Over the weekend, Cunningham had the opportunity to visit Sam Houston State. The visit went well with Sam Houston State and Cunningham earned a scholarship offer. Cunningham has the potential and the ability to play on Saturdays in the future.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='923423' first='Jack' last='VanDorselaer']-Tight End-Southlake Carroll-2025-6'5” 232-Pounds</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='923423' first='Jack' last='VanDorselaer'] is a prospect at the tight end position that does a great job at both block and receiving. He has good power and does not have a problem clearing a rushing lane for his teammates. Meanwhile, in the passing game VanDorselaer does a good job of creating separation from opposing linebackers and safeties to haul in the reception. Last week, the Southlake Carroll tight end earned a scholarship offer from the Miami Hurricanes. I expect a strong season from VanDorselaer in 2023.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Trey Joyner III-Running Back-Denton Guyer-2024-5'9” 185-Pounds</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Denton Guyer running back has the ability to make people miss. Joyner III is rarely brought down on initial contact, and he uses his vision well. He is a running back that does an impressive job of allowing rushing lanes to develop before exploding through the hole. Joyner III has the potential to have a big season for Denton Guyer this upcoming season. Last week, he had the opportunity to visit Northeastern State University. The school that lands him gets a talented running back that will rarely have to leave the field.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Jovanni Melchor-Offensive Line-Katy Jordan-2024-6'2” 275-Pounds</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jovanni Melchor is a versatile offensive lineman that uses his mix of power and speed well. He has the strength to clear a path for his running backs. Meanwhile, he has the speed to get out on sweeps and screens. Melchor does an excellent job of keeping opposing defensive linemen off-balance. Last weekend, Melchor had the opportunity to visit Texas State. He has the potential to have a big season this upcoming season for Katy Jordan.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>TJ Jones-Defensive Back-Klein Oak-2024-6'2” 185-Pounds</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>TJ Jones can play the safety or cornerback positions with equal effectiveness. He does an excellent job of getting physical with opposing wide receivers. Jones is not afraid to jam the opposing wide out at the line of scrimmage. Jones will not shy away from contact and will move up to make the tackle on the ball carrier. On Friday of last week, Jones earned a scholarship offer from Akron. He is a prospect with the talent to play on Saturdays in the future and I expect more offers to come his way over the next few months.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
