In the constant search for who the biggest and brightest stars of tomorrow are, PRZ Next stays with a constant eye towards the future of football. Here’s a look at 10 class of 2027 prospects, from three different states, that I’m high on today.
– Product of the famed Harlem Jets youth program, Sangaray certainly has the potential to become a D1 defensive back at this stage of the game
– Though unverified to my knowledge, he is listed at 6-foot and 170-pounds right now. That’s elite size for a corner only in the eighth grade. Would not be shocked to see him transition to safety as he enters high school. That said, he has great technique as a corner and could blanket there, too.
– He’ll be off to Iona Prep next year, joining a program that has gone 54-14 since head coach Joe Spagnolo the helm in 2016
– The words “raw” and “potential” doesn’t even begin to come close to describing the amount of upside Cassamajor has. This past fall was the first time the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder (unverified size) even played a season of football
– His size, length and frame alone are things that should have next-level coaches excited. In speaking with him, he’s working hard in the weight room to get the proper form down on lifts. It’s paying off as the change from just a few months ago is noticeable
– Spent his very early years living outside Philadelphia before moving to State College, Pa. (just seven minutes from Beaver Stadium, home of Penn State). From there, he moved one more time to Stamford, Connecticut and will now join Mamadee Sangaray Mamadee Sangaray 6’0″ | 170 lbs | DB Iona Prep | 2027 NY at Iona Prep in New York next year. Stay tuned here.
Highlights
– New York City is not exactly known for turning out football players, like it is for basketball. However, kids like Farrell and some of the other 2027 prospects, make it a necessity to always check on the Big Apple
– Good size for a defensive lineman that can play outside as a defensive end on the interior at this point, standing 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds. Like Cassamajor above, there has been a noticeable transformation in appearance and body composition over the last six months
– A product of the Boogie Down Bronx, there are several years to go before we find out if Farrell blossoms in to a viable prospect but there’s a little bit of a pipeline there. Names like Saquon Barkley (New York Giants), Chris Canty (Super Bowl Champion with the New York Giants), Willie Colon (Super Bowl Champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers) and Ricky Proehl (17-year NFL career and two-time Super Bowl Champion) were all born in the Bronx
Highlights
– Headed out of the five borough and up to the state capital of Albany, Vogel is a prospect I’m really intrigued by at this point because of what he brings athletically
– As an eighth-grader at Christian Brothers Academy this year, saw JV/Varsity time in football as a wide receiver/defensive back and as a guard on the basketball court
– An athletic, wiry build for a 2027 prospect at 6-foot-1 and 150 pounds. Doesn’t wow with speed or explosion, but seems to always be in the right spot to make a play on the ball–regardless of playing offense or defense. Should see a significant uptick in responsibility as a freshman this fall, on a team that has gone 21-4 over the last two years
Highlights
– Quite possibly the most untalked about future star in the class of 2027 when it comes to New Jersey prospects. Right now, has an unverified size of 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds with a thick lower half
– The younger brother of Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore, Tahj Bullock. Tahj Bullock made my National Watchlist when he was in eighth grade and younger brother Jaylin is built very similarly. Like big brother, Jaylin will be off to St. Peter’s Prep in the fall
– Exceptionally quick decision-maker when dropping back in quick game. Has no problem throwing the deep ball, but throws absolute darts in the short-to-intermediate passing game. Works hard in the off-season and will be highly recruited
– Has continued to improve based off the recent film and clips I’ve seen of Ortiz. Looks like a different football player compared to early September when I first saw him
– Staring to look the part of a prospect that could possibly contribute early in his high school career. Now standing at an unverified 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds. Looking like a promising offensive tackle and defensive tackle/defensive end on the opposite side of the ball
– In January, announced he’ll be attending St. Anthony’s for high school. The Friars are the defending state champions and ended this past season ranked the No.1 team in the state of New York
Highlights
– Looking at Gavin O’Leary Gavin O’Leary 6’2″ | 150 lbs | TE St. Joseph Regional | 2027 NJ right now, there is a long way to go for him to be next-level ready. However, that’s OK because there is plenty of time for him to develop as an athlete
– Without knowing other personnel, scheme or circumstances on his team from this past regular season, O’Leary looks like he was playing out of position as a Safety and Wide Receiver
– He’s listed at an unverified 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds at this point, with his height and length being a big plus. Tying in my two previous bullet points, he must develop in terms of speed, coordination, fluidity and overall athleticism. I think he has potential and ability, but I’d be lining up a kid like this at tight end and defensive end; While building speed and also trying to pack on muscle
– Big play threat on the outside as a wide receiver, ankle-breaker in the punt return and kick return game and can play some free safety if needed
– A wide receiver I wish I had seen earlier in the year based off his highlight film. Just an exciting kid that can take screens the distance or take the top off a defense on a deep ball
– Is headed to Don Bosco Prep in fall, as part of a super impressive 2027 incoming class for the Ironmen. Has already started to see recruiting begin a bit, as he visited Penn State in late March
– While finding every stud eighth-grade prospect in every state is a nearly impossible task, I pride myself in identifying as many prospect as possible in my home state of New Jersey. Okolo was one I am just finding out about now, in April
– A strong and powerful runner listed at an unverified 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds right now. Hits the hole hard and runs with purpose, specifically when seeing a clear alley to run down hill on
– Had a monster eighth-grade season with 1,100+ yards and 13 touchdowns for a Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers A-Team (eighth graders) that finished 5-3 on the year. Unsure on where he’ll be going to high school, but if he stays in public school, he’ll be a nice “housewarming” for newly-minted head coach DJ Catalano.
Highlights
– A very talented multi-sport athlete that already stands 6-foot-2 and 155-pounds as a long, lean quarterback and safety on the football field and a talented guard/forward on the hardwood
– One of the top players in the state of New Jersey when it comes to hoops. Has been dunking in game action for over two years and can also hit from distance
– Loved the way he played the quarterback position this past year for Asbury Park. Can throw a deep ball with nice touch, seemingly with just a flick of the wrist. Then, on the next play, can improvise to pick up yards on the ground. Quietly becoming one of my favorite football players in the state for the class of 2027
