We can’t let them fall under the radar, so in today’s article we begin a look at multiple 8 man athletes that I expect to have big years for their teams this fall. Every class will be included. Today we have members of the Class of 2024 and 2025.
Ashton Post
Ashton Post
First up we have a very productive RB out of St. Mary Catholic. The 5’11” 175 lbs junior is going to be responsible for a big workload this fall. I believe he should be on the radar of D3 programs this fall. Ashton has the standout long speed to create big plays. He reads the field well and finds the seams set up by blocks, and he has solid balance while running behind his pads. Ashton is also a National power lifter, and it definitely has amplified his talents. Don’t be surprised to see him dominate the 8 man level this fall.
Daniel Harness
Daniel Harness
The 6’2″ 180 lbs sophomore is a do it all athlete for St. Mary Catholic. His highlights show him all over the field. WR, DE, OLB are all places he has made plays from. He has the range needed to play in space on defense. He can roam a zone of the field in coverage and make plays on the ball. Daniel will also be seen rushing the edge where that speed is superior over OTs. That speed allows him to run the loop to the QB and create a lot of havoc in the backfield. Looking at his skill set, Daniel looks to be developing into a solid OLB recruit. Make sure to have him on your radar. His numbers on the edge could be very impressive over the next two seasons.
Colin Dallman
Colin Dallman
Colin was close to 1,000 yards rushing last season, and I expect to see him go over the threshold this fall. In 2022 we saw Colin take what the defense gave him. He had enough speed to pick up chunks of yards, but in 2023 I want to see him take the next step and start creating yards with his elusiveness. We saw some wiggle last fall, but the change of pace type back will need to prove he can do that consistently. If he can then the junior could grab the attention of the D3 level. Colin is an athlete to track this fall.
Thorp is going to field multiple explosive athletes in 2023. I am expecting a great season for the team, and for RB Logan Hanson Logan Hanson 5’10” | 200 lbs | RB Thorp | 2024 State WI . The 5’10” 200 lbs athlete is coming off 1,500+ total yards and 25 TDs, so I’m excited to see how he follows that up. After watching the tape I am intrigued by the junior’s combination of power and elusiveness. Logan can run behind his pads, break tackles, and pick up yards after contact between the tackles. He can also make defenders completely whiff in those same tight quarters or out in space. His instincts with the ball in his hands for ways to create yards is fun to watch. I’m looking forward to his final campaign.
Highlights
The 5’10” 180 lbs WR/DB is an exciting two way athlete that will be another key contributor for what looks like a talented Thorp roster. On offense, Denzel is a sudden route runner. He can cut in an instant and he accelerates out of his breaks rapidly. Denzel tracks and adjusts to the ball well down the field on offense and defense. I was impressed with the nuanced head fakes he uses to set up defenders while route running. Sutton should be one of, if not the top, perimeter 8 man athletes.
Dylan spent his sophomore season proving to be an opportunistic defensive back. He demonstrated the ability to bait QBs into bad decisions, as well as the range to recover and track down the ball. Mattson is also a solid WR. He has the speed to get behind the DBs and reel in the ball with ease. Mattson has shown to have a knack for making the big play. The sophomore also has the quickness to win in the short area. We could be in store for a big breakout year as Thorp looks to have a dominant year.
