Denzel has done a great job of stepping up where Thorp needed him. He is a talented WR prospect, and is committed to play that position for Minnesota State- Moorhead. However, the senior has stepped up at QB and done a more than serviceable job leading the offense. Through the air, Denzel’s natural playmaking ability comes through in his arm. He is able to push the ball deep, and has surprising accuracy to the three levels of the field. On the ground is where he shines. Denzel’s after the catch elusiveness carries over to his QB play. When he decides to tuck it and run he has the speed to create the big plays and the agility/quickness/burst to make defenders miss in tight quarters. The senior sees the field very well, and will be one of the leading factors in the success of Thorp’s final game.

Denzel has seen his recruitment pick up steam recently with a roster offer from Oshkosh. Before that, the Thorp standout WR had himself a standout day at the Minnesconsin Mega Camp. The powerful, compact 5’11” 188 lbs WR proved to be an explosive threat out wide. He jumped 9’3″ and 37.4″ and ran 4.75. It was great to get some athletic numbers because on tape Denzel plays so strong that that part of his game sometimes overtakes the athleticism. The jumps do a great job of giving a glimpse into his lower body power that has made him very explosive out of his route breaks. It opens up a ton of space in the 8 man league for his QB to target. The Thorp WR helped his stock last week. He is a strong, athletic name to know.

The 5’10” 180 lbs WR/DB is an exciting two way athlete that will be another key contributor for what looks like a talented Thorp roster. On offense, Denzel is a sudden route runner. He can cut in an instant and he accelerates out of his breaks rapidly. Denzel tracks and adjusts to the ball well down the field on offense and defense. I was impressed with the nuanced head fakes he uses to set up defenders while route running. Sutton should be one of, if not the top, perimeter 8 man athletes.
