Continue ReadingPrep Redzone recently held its inaugural 7v7 event, The Sooner State Shootout, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The 7v7 movement is a runaway train at this point and many of the nation’s top prep prospects strap up each weekend to play. Unlike traditional recruiting where a prospect is identified by class, these events are age-based rather than graduating class. It can make for some interesting dynamics with younger/older prospects vis-a-vis what scholastic grade they’re in. Below is a look at part 1 of some of the 2027 standouts, per the scouts in attendance. Having a keen eye for middle school prospects, I have added my two cents on some of these promising prospects.
AL Pops: Campbell earned a Top Performer nod at the Sooner Shootout and also solidified a spot on the 2027 PRZ Next National Watchlist at the same time. Campbell displayed unbelievable body control and overall awareness throughout the weekend for the Sooner7 14U team, making several nice grabs from what I’m told by scouts on the ground. Campbell was on my list of “wait and see” in regards to the National Watchlist ahead of the weekend but he played himself right off there quickly. This past season he was named Player of the Year for an absolutely loaded Stillwater Junior High team, that also had fellow 2027 PRZ Next National Watchlist athletes Bradford Mitchell Bradford Mitchell 6’1″ | 180 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2027 OK and Deakon Jones Deakon Jones 6’0″ | 170 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2027 State OK on it. His cousin and Sooner7 teammate Peyton Campbell was the team’s Quarterback. Cole shined as a Safety for the Pioneers this past season and played a big part in them winning a conference title.
AL Pops: Speaking of that talented Stillwater Junior High team, Sooner7 and talent, Deakon Jones Deakon Jones 6’0″ | 170 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2027 State OK is another 2027 worth talking about some more. Scouts on the ground couldn’t be everywhere, watching every play on every field at the same time, so it’s understandable some elite players were missed as Top Performers. I have to believe this was the case for Jones. I saw several clips of the 6-foot, 170-pound, three-sport athlete making big plays throughout the weekend. None was bigger than the game-winning touchdown reception in the semi-finals, with a defender draped all over him. Whether he was burning defenses deep or making the tough plays when they were needed most, Jones is a very talented prospect that shined bright.
AL Pops: There are certain athletes in the history of sport that are recognizable by only one name: Kobe, Lebron, Tiger, Pele. If 2027 Quarterback Rozzi Sperry Rozzi Sperry QB TX continues to play the way he did at the Sooner State Shootout, go ahead and add him to that list. The Texas native earned a Top Performer nod from scouts on the ground for his play on a talented C4 squad, which featured a ton of big time throws from the righty signal caller. The younger brother of Kevin Sperry Kevin Sperry 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB Denton Guyer | 2025 TX , currently the No.15 overall and No.4 Quarterback prospect in our 2025 Texas rankings. While the older Sperry is already closing in on 20 offers as only a sophomore, Rozzi is quickly making people become a believer in him as well. He has incredible arm strength for only being a 2027 prospect and he still hasn’t even began to hit a growth spurt yet. Rozzi earned his way onto the 2027 PRZ Next National Watchlist.
AL Pops: Let’s run it back with another 2027 Texas prospect, who plays for C4 and who has an older brother picking up offers from all over the country– Amir Porter Amir Porter WR TX . Porter is head-tapping Wide Receiver out of Dallas that was named a Top Performer by our scouts on the ground at the Sooner State Shootout. It likely didn’t take long for him to jump on the radar because he has the ability to make some astounding catches for only being in eighth-grade. He doubles as a standout on the basketball court as well, which shouldn’t surprise anybody if you look at his bloodlines. His father Rell is 6-foot-7 and played hoops at Liberty; His cousin Emanuel Porter was a 6-foot-5 Wide Receiver at TCU who converted from basketball and didn’t play football until his junior year. More recently, his older brother Amarean Porter was named to our 2026 PRZ Next Watchlist last year as an eighth-grade Wide Receiver. He recently picked up his fourth offer from the Miami Hurricanes. I’ll never pretend to be the smartest guy in the room–because I never will be–but I think it’s pretty clear cut that the recruiting world should hop on Amir sooner, rather than later.
What other 2027’s Opened Some Eyes?
- AL Pops: Wide Receiver and Defensive Back John Luke Kloberdanz did a nice job for the Northwest Elite, earning some praise from our scouts on the ground. His eighth-grade film is pretty good too and does a great job of showing his top-end speed, understanding of pursuit angles and willingness to tackle. He’s pretty undersized right now, listed at 5-foot-8 and 120-pounds. Excited to see what a few more months and years of growth will do for his game.
- AL Pops: Quarterback Tristin Coon drew the eye of a few scouts for his ability to come up with some big time throws during the Sooner State Shootout for first-year program, MO7’s Arete. He’s certainly undersized per his social media, at just 5-foot-6 and 135-pounds but he showed off enough arm talent to get people excited. He’s off to Ozark High School next year where he’ll assumingely be the the first Quarterback to spend four years with new head coach Jeremy Cordell.
- AL Pops: If you follow high school football in Oklahoma, you know about Bixby High School. The Spartans have won the 6A State Championship (the state’s largest class) in eight of the last nine years, including the last five in a row. Quarterback Jaxson Allen is set to be a freshman there in the fall and the 2027 Quarterback showed that winner’s mentality with a good showing for The Unit 918 15U team. Physically there is room for growth (literally and figuratively) and Allen also has to compete each day with fellow-2027 Bixby Quarterback Barrett Standley Barrett Standley 6'1" | 165 lbs | QB Bixby | 2027 OK . However iron sharpens iron and I don’t doubt he’ll compete each step of the way.
- AL Pops: 2027 Arkansas prospect Champ McNabb was named a top performer by our scouts in attendance for his playmaking ability as a member of the Arkansas Icons Gold 15U team. He’s listed at 5-foot-10 and 145 pounds on his Hudl account but I could not find film or anything else to verify this. He’ll be on to Morrilton High School next year, where his father Cody is the head coach. The Devil Dogs finished 6-5 on the varsity level this past season, making the playoffs after back-to-back sub.500 seaons the previous two years.
