In this article:
Team Georgia Future Stars headed to South Georgia this weekend for another weekend of tryouts. On Saturday the camp was at Crisp County High School and was scheduled to be in Macon on Sunday, but some severe weather rolled through the area and caused a cancellation of the Macon tryout. Nonetheless the tryouts at Crisp County did not disappoint. It was one of the most intense and competitive camps that Future Stars has witnessed in its long, storied history. Some names known to the staff lived up to expectations, and some new players made their names known with an emphasis. Here’s a look.
The eighth-grade group was loaded with talent, and it was Jace Murray Jace Murray 5’10” | 190 lbs | LB Lee County | 2027 GA who walked away with a hard-earned, competitive MVP award. Murray is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound athlete that plays a physical and dominant style of Linebacker. He loves to compete and has very fluid movement, allowing him to drop in coverage like a Defensive Back, yet still more than strong enough to be a dominant point of attack Linebacker. Murray reminded FSG staff of former FSG athlete and Auburn Linebacker, Owen Pappoe. Pappoe is affectionately nicknamed “The Freak” and is entered in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Jakeyveon Parker Jakeyveon Parker 5’10” | 195 lbs | RB Macon County | 2027 State GA showed up at the camp with a reputation as an elite player, having already been on the 2027 PRZ Next National Watch for months and the talented athlete did not disappoint. Parker is a well-put together middle school player, with a body that will make him ready to step onto the high school field and compete from day one Clocking a 4.75 in the 40, he showed top-end speed with elite agility and balance. His change of direction was effortless and explosive. He proved why many consider him one of the top running backs in his class.
Highlights
At 5-foot-11 and 264 pounds, Jakobe Bryant Jakobe Bryant 6’1″ | 285 lbs | OL Houston County | 2027 GA was dominant during the Future Stars camp. The Warner Robbins prospect finished each of his blocks in physical fashion. He was a player that loved the competition and enjoyed being on the field competing against some of the best Georgia has to offer. He showed good lateral movement in his pass sets with violent hands. Bryant has a very bright future.
Highlights
Jaden Upshaw Jaden Upshaw 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Lee County | 2027 GA lived up to the expectations after making the Georgia Future Stars, a year ago. The 6-foot-1 Wide Receiver showed off some elite ball skills. He showed the strength to get off press coverage and the ability to high point the ball, making him a dominant force on 50/50 balls.
There were several other standouts in the 8th grade (2027) group
- 2027 prospect Austin Stinson Austin Stinson 5'7" | 175 lbs | DB Houston County | 2027 GA was an eighth-grader with all of the skill to be an elite corner. He has good size, elite speed, very good instincts and ball skills. Stinson is a playmaker on defense.
- All 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds of Brody Stephens had some nice moments on the Offensive Line
- Athlete Trevon Williams of Albany earned some nice price from FSG staff
- Defensive Back Durrell Brown was mentioned as a Defensive Back who did a nice job during the tryout
- Big Kyson Mallard Kyson Mallard 6'6" | 300 lbs | OL Westover Comprehensive | 2027 GA rounds out the eighth-graders that impressed at the tryout camp. The Albany native made the Georgia Future Stars last year and has now grown to 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds
Lawson Shines in the 7th Grade (2028) Group
Words cannot explain the camp that Cohen Lawson Cohen Lawson 6’0″ | 180 lbs | ATH Colquitt County | 2028 GA from Colquitt County had this weekend. A 5-foot-11, 172-pound 2028 prospect that tried out at Quarterback and demonstrated a very powerful arm. He was making throws to every area of the field and was throwing with a high school ball. He would have won MVP as the QB, but Lawson wasn’t content. He went on to rake reps at Wide Receiver and Defensive Back during the seventh-grade session and was the best player at each of those positions also. Lawson’s 5.09 in the 40-yard dash was the fastest seventh-grader so far. He was so impressive during the seventh-grade camp, that some of the high school players convinced him to stay for the eighth-grade camp too. Lawson accepted the challenge and was also a standout during a loaded eighth-grade session, battling the top receivers as a defensive back, beating some top corners as a receiver, and still being the best quarterback in that camp also. Lawson has a very bright football future—at whatever position he settles in at.
- Another 2028 prospect that made some noise at the tryout was Charlie Blanks. The Cordele native made some noise is in the secondary as a Defensive Back
Massive Madison Leads Class of 2029 (6th grade) Prospects
Caleb Madison
Caleb Madison
Caleb Madison was a very impressive and dominant lineman. Madison already stands 5-foot-9 and weighed in at 262 pounds. He was a coachable kid and worked very hard. The big man stayed in and competed rep after rep, while others were trying to rotate out and rest. He is physical and much quicker than one would think. He is a kid that could really blossom once he gets in a high school program with weight training and daily coaching.
- Vienna’s Marcus Bryant did a nice job in the eyes of the FSG staff in attendance. The Defensive Back did a solid job of competing throughout the tryout
