Here are some names you need to know that could generate some serious offseason attention. While this attention may not lead to offers this summer, it could lay the groundwork for recruitment throughout the fall and potentially earning roster spots or scholarship offers from programs leading up to National Signing Day.
Sebastian Regis Sebastian Regis 6’1″ | 280 lbs | DL East Islip | 2024 State NY is one of my favorite prospects in the class of 2024. The defensive tackle has one of the most elite skillsets in New York and is a very successful multi-sport athlete after just winning the state championship in the 285lb weight class in wrestling. A lot of those same skills that led Regis to a wrestling championship are showcased on the gridiron where he possess elite explosiveness and power. Regis has the skillset to excel this offseason likley putting up positive numbers in short area explosiveness drills and dominate in 1v1 lineman drills both with and without pads. I think Regis is a candidate to get a ton of recruiting attention this offseason and generate a ton of buzz headed into the 2023 season.

Jaylin Ballew Jaylin Ballew 6’3″ | 210 lbs | TE Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY is one of the most athletically gifted players, not tight ends, but players in the class of 2024. Ballew has great speed, great change of direction, and is a really smooth and fluid athlete. Ballew should shine in any offseason 7v7, camps, or on-campus events where his athleticism and pass catching ability will shine. While Ballew put some very good reps on film in 2022 he is a tight end in a primarily power running offense that only attempts to stretch the field a couple times a game. With limited opportunities to truly shine as a receiver from the tight end position in the fall, Ballew is a name to watch this summer before his senior season.

Jahi Gary Jahi Gary 6’5″ | 200 lbs | WR Archbishop Stepniac | 2024 State NY is one of the most physically gifted wide receivers in the class. At 6-5, 198lbs Gary has elite frame and has very solid athleticism and quickness to go along with it. Gary does a great job of using his size as a part of his skillset and being a true contested catch threat who will high point the ball and physically over power defensive backs. Gary also has great hands and can make very difficult catches in awkward positions. Gary has great focus throughout his routes and is as sure-handed as any receiver in New York with a physical skillset that other receivers cannot compete with. Gary already has an offer from Old Dominion but should garner some additional interest this summer as college start to see how physically dominant he can be.

Zakar Morris Zakar Morris 6’1″ | 275 lbs | DL Iona Prep | 2024 State NY should have a strong summer and build off of a very strong junior season in which he was one of the best defensive lineman in the NYCHSFL. Morris has great strength and his ability to take on double team blocks and not be moved is impressive. Additionally, Morris does a great job of getting off blocks to make plays and contact on ball carriers around the LOS. This summer coaches will really like Morris’ hand placement and initial punch off the snap. Morris has really solid hand placement and does a good job of getting his upper body and hands in a winning position on the initial engagement.

Arinze Maijeh Arinze Maijeh 6’1″ | 260 lbs | DL Canarsie Highschool | 2024 State NY spent his Junior season playing for Christ the King and he should excel this offseason showcasing elite ahtleticism. Maijeh has a great combination of power and speed and can win with multiple pass rush moves or plans. Maijeh does a really good job of using quick and violent hands to put offensive lineman under extreme pressure. Maijeh could have some of the best 1v1 reps of any lineman in New York based on his athleticism alone. Maijeh also should athletically test well at any camp and features size that could easily be worth FBS attention.
Highlights
Nicholas Rinaldi Nicholas Rinaldi 6’2″ | 265 lbs | OL Chaminade | 2024 State NY had a really solid season for Chaminade and his instincts and awareness as a blocker is incredible. Rinaldi is one of the best lineman at finding work in pass protection or getting to the second level in the run game as a guard. Rinaldi does a really good job of using quick lower half to create leverage on defenders but also has a really powerful upper half that can finish defenders. Rinaldi should shine athletically this summer and does a great job of showcasing solid fundamentals. If Rinaldi adds some more weight and power to his lower half he could easily play himself into the conversation of one of the top offensive lineman this summer.
Mike Dunn Mike Dunn 6’4″ | 280 lbs | OL Cardinal Hayes | 2024 State NY has great length at 6-4, 275lbs and has the frae to easily fill out a little more and add weight. Dunn does a great job as a mauling blocker and finishing lineman to the ground. Dunn uses his length to excel in pass protection and does a great job of using good foot speed to win against much quicker smaller defensive lineman or blitzers on the inside. Dunn has the size, athleticism, and mauling ability to really shine throughout the summer and his ability to take guys to the ground is some of the best there is in New York. Not much of a better way for OL to stand out than taking guys down to the ground, especially in 1v1 matchups during the offseason.

Oshane Martin Jr Oshane Martin Jr 6’2″ | 205 lbs | LB Erasmus Hall | 2024 State NY should be in-line for a big summer that will lead right into a fall season that should showcase a bigger role on a very strong Erasmus Hall defense. Martin Jr played that OLB/SS role that is so common in High School fronts. Martin Jr showed that he can be a really solid player in coverage using really solid length to be a tough player to target in zone coverage. Martin Jr is a solid blitzer who showcases speed of the edge and good cornering to the quarterback. Martin Jr does a good job of wrapping up as a tackler and can make plays in open space. With a couple of linebackers graduating from their top 2022 defense Martin Jr should be in-line for a huge 2023 role. His athleticism and coverage skills will shine in camps and offseason events.
