First up we started with top 100 ranked Linebacker Adam Badi Adam Badi 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Centreville | 2024 State VA from Centreville. Badi is a force to be reckon with for the Wildcats, he stopped by to go into more detail on when he knew he may be pretty darn good at this football thing below:
Carl Frederick: When do you first know that you a special talent as a football player?
Adam Badi Adam Badi 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Centreville | 2024 State VA : The first time I’ve notice that I am a talented football player is during covid in 8th grade. With all the fields shut down in Fairfax County at the time me and my friends almost every day tried to find a grass field to workout at and prepare to play in the spring for our freshman season. We used to go to elementary school fields just to get kicked out by school security almost every time because of social distancing. But that didn’t stop us from working and people that saw us workout told us that we going to be something special when we are older and that’s when I realized I have a great talent for football.
CF: Please update us on your off-season any visits/offers we should be aware about?
AB: Right now, I’m going to be at William and Mary JR day on the 4 of March and as of right now that is it.
CF: What school does Centreville circle every year as their biggest rival?
AB: Centreville biggest rival almost every year is probably the biggest game in VA Cvile vs as we say it the other school (Westfield) but for a couple of years now they have been an easy game for us. But for the last few years we haven’t been able to get over Madison they as I see it are a rival for a couple of years now.
CF: Besides your quarterback, is there any other players on your squad we should be watching?
AB: We have a lot of talent on our new team for this year we are going to miss our 23s but have some new talented sophomores and freshman coming in. We have a 2-year starting safety and running back keyon somers who’s a ball player. We also have 2 sophomores Lj persons and Meny pilgrim who are also dogs. Also have another JR marshal rich who is also a dog. And our past freshman class is stacked with a bunch of ball players as well.
CF: Give us a fun fact about Adam Badi Adam Badi 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Centreville | 2024 State VA ?
AB: Fun fact about me is I’ve been playing football since I was 6 years old!
Top 70 ranked Wide Receiver James Madison’s Cord Yates Cord Yates 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR James Madison | 2024 State VA checked in to update us on his recruiting. Yates also discussed his squad’s state title game run and his school’s biggest rival:
Carl Frederick: James Madison returns several starters from your District title team in 2022, how has the off-season been going?
Cord Yates Cord Yates 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR James Madison | 2024 State VA : We are returning some key guys from last year and it has given us even more reason to work this offseason. So far, it’s been great our coaches continue to push us harder each year as we’ve been more successful. For some of us we’ve played in and lost two state championships, so we have that extra push to work. I’m confident our team will keep our heads down and grind.
CF: Your name is gaining a lot of interest nationally; do you have a favorite or any school in particular?
CY: I really enjoyed Lafayette this past weekend. The coaches and campus were great and if I get the opportunity, it would be hard to pass up but, If I could choose, my dream school would be Yale. My brother plays tight end there and I would love to get an opportunity to play with him.
CF: Who does James Madison circle every year when it comes to their most fierce rival?
CY: Stonebridge is the game I think about the most. We play them every year but have not beat them in 5 or 6 years and they’ve obviously been doing great things. Last year we lost on a game winning field goal, so I feel like we need to get them back this fall.
CF: Did you know before last season’s magical run all the way to the State title that you were a part of something special?
CY: Before last season I had no idea what our team would be. We returned 5 or 6 guys and 3 of us were receivers so we lost the base of our offense and defense. Once we got into practice, I saw how hard everyone was working and how much we wanted it. We had a rough start, but I knew something special was coming after a big team win against Centreville. Our chemistry came together and from then on, I knew we were making the run again.
CF: Last question give us a fun fact about Cord Yates Cord Yates 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR James Madison | 2024 State VA ?
CY: I loved baseball all my life. It was my focus for 10 years, but I recently switched and committed to my future in football.
Our last interviewee for this series would be the 2022 Virginia state player of the year Tristan Evans Tristan Evans 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Freedom | 2024 VA . I documented this kid’s season in his evaluation, but that is not enough. What he did last year was put over 70 total touchdowns, 6 interceptions and led Freedom to a state title. Evans is a grinder and was very honest in his interview with me below. Please take notice to this young man before you miss out:
Carl Frederick: First question is how do you plan on topping what you and your team accomplished last year?
Tristan Evans Tristan Evans 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Freedom | 2024 VA : Last season was amazing and I’m thankful that I was blessed with the opportunity to play with my teammates and coach. But I am a firm believer that there is always room for improvement and my goal is to always strive to be better at the game. So, looking into next season I plan to work on my short comings and address those weaknesses that were seen last season. It is my goal for next year to not only take home the state title but to do it better then what we did last season. I.e., less interceptions, less drops, more touch downs, more yards, and more hard work. My goal for the team is to really work with each other to perform to the best of our abilities in every aspect of the game.
CF: Give us updates on how your college visits have been going?
TE: College visits haven’t been going too well. I’m very grateful to the ones who have reached out to me this far and I’m looking forward to opportunities that this next season holds for me.
CF: Going into last season, when did you know you and your squad had something special?
TE: Last season was amazing, and I think our team and coaches did a great job. Over the years we became like family. I think that’s what separates us from other schools is that the man standing next to me out on that field he’s not my running back or just another player. He’s my brother and I’m his. To answer your question I knew we had something special not just when we were winning games but when I saw my brothers being there for each other on and off of the field. I knew we had something special when I saw how we cared for one another and how we pushed each other every day to be better. I know we are special because of #OTF.
CF: Besides winning what do the Freedom Eagles have to do to repeat as state champions?
TE: In order to repeat what we did last year as a team we need to train harder and work on our flaws from last year. We need to practice more and fine tune our playing. I personally believe that we need to work on every aspect of playing the game from tackling, throwing, footwork, etc…. It takes an incredible amount of hard work and long days to become good at something and our goal isn’t to be just good but great. Training and practice is imperative to our success as a team.
CF: Last one, what is something our audience may not know about Tristan Evans Tristan Evans 5'11" | 180 lbs | QB Freedom | 2024 VA ?
TE: A fact about me is that I’m a proud and devoted Christian. My faith is the most important thing other than my family to me. I owe all my success and glory to my Lord savior Jesus Christ. I thank God every day that he opened this door for me and that he’s there with me every time I step onto the field.
