Who are they? Let’s take a look…
Willie Goodwyn – ATH – Rabun County
AA big-time two-way player and one of the more underrated prospects in North Georgia, Goodwyn showed off plenty of speed and playmaking ability last year as a junior, and he’s finally starting to see some D1 interest and offers come his way. The athletic 6-foot-1 180-pounder was a consistent playmaker on both sides of the ball and it’s led to his first two offers from Georgia State and East Carolina. The D1 potential is easy to see and he’ll likely add more and more offers as the 2023 year goes along. At receiver, Goodwyn was a major factor in Rabun County’s prolific passing attack, catching 20 passes for 449 yards for an eye-opening average of 22.5 yards per reception. He also added 7 touchdowns on those 20 catches, proving to be a threat to score anytime he has the ball. He’s an electric weapon on offense, but he had a standout season defensively as well, racking up 44 tackles and three INTs from the secondary. He’s one of the fastest-rising prospects in North Georgia, and it’s only the beginning for Goodwyn on the recruiting trail.
Tony Mathis Jr – DB – Westside
A playmaking defensive back and one of the more underrated defenders in Macon right now, Mathis Jr.is a hard-hitting defender with plenty of versatility in the secondary. Whether he’s lined up at cornerback or safety, Mathis Jr. is looking to make a play. He has impressive ball skills and appears to be a natural in coverage. He reads thee quarterback and closes well on the receiver when the ball is in the air. A sure tackler, the Middle Georgia standout knows how to wrap up and deliver a solid blow to the ball-carrier. He’s also one of the top special teams players in the area who blocked a jaw-dropping five kicks last year. He’s lightning quick on the ball and his natural athleticism and playmaking ability make him a very intriguing prospect. A 1st team All-Region selection last year as a junior, the 6-foot-1 175-pounder made 71 total tackles last year, had five pass deflections in coverage, and one INT in addition to his five blocked kicks.
Marcus Mascoll – OL/DL – South Gwinnett
It wasn’t a great season for the Comets in 2023, but it’s clear they have one of the top up and coming offensive linemen in the region on their side as a senior next year in big left tackle, Marcus Mascoll. The big 6-foot-5 285-pounder has a promising frame and shows quick feet and a good initial punch. He’s tough to get through and around for opposing defenders and does a great job of opening up running lanes on the left side of the line. A decent athlete for his size, Mascoll had an impressive junior season last fall and it’s led to recent offers over the last several weeks from Georgia Southern, App State, NC State, UCF, Coastal Carolina, among others. His long reach and balanced base make him one of the top pass-protectors in the region and he’ll only improve more and more over the next few months as he prepares for his senior season next fall. He’s an easy D1 talent and not finished seeing new offers come his way.
