This list of players will have some dawgs who are know and some who are on the rise. These linebackers have been seen as some of the best in their districts and in their areas.
Tyler Day
Tyler Day
Day’s film showed much versatility in his game. A good sized linebacker, at 6’2, 225, Day plays physical and can impact a game coming off the edge. As an off ball linebacker, Day shows good click and close ability, reading runs and attacking downhill. He hits the running lanes with force, redirecting running backs into negative plays. Day is a great contain player and a secure tackler in space. He capped off his junior season with 68 tackles, averaging almost 7 per game.
Herrera is a hard hitting, forceful linebacker who plays a fast game. He is a read and react guy, with very good recovery speed who really can ring some bells. He showed he is a sideline to sideline defender who can take on blocks aggressively without giving ground. Herrera finished his junior year with 90 total tackles and earned a 2nd Team All District honor. Look out for him to come out hungrier than ever next season.
Corion Powers
Corion Powers
Powers is a rangier linebacker who plays comfortably in space. He’s a secure tackler who plays the run extremely well, and can drop back in coverage and look like a defensive back. Powers is a versatile defender who can move around the field and a player who has a nose for the ball. He looks to be a promising player and next season will be one to watch from him.
Dillon Dixon
Dillon Dixon
Dixon played very well this past season, leading a very strong defense to a state championship appearance. Dixon was great in the run game, flowing and fitting into run lanes with ease and avoiding blockers. Dixon showed great anticipation, reading his keys and attacking the line of scrimmage before the ball carrier and line know what happened. He is a sideline to sideline player, who is technically sound and a reliable defender. He will be high on many lists ahead of next season.
Pradia is a tackling machine who goes downhill with a purpose. He does not allow many to stop him on his way to the ball. He is a secure tackler who rarely lets ball carriers out of his grasp, and he is bringing some power behind those hits. Pradia moves well in space and can comfortably cover the slot. He has a nose for the ball and does not get fooled easily on misdirections. He is as simply put a true baller on the defensive side of the ball.
Victor Thomas
Victor Thomas
Thomas’s size is what pops out at first on his film. He has a good frame and speed to go along with it. Thomas shows good lateral quickness when flowing with the play, and has a burst of speed when blitzing and coming downhill. He looks untouchable on A gap blitzes where he just runs right by attempting blockers. Thomas uses his hand well when engaged on blocks, pressing then shedding and freeing himself to make plays. He is definitely a player to look out for next season.
Dean Ford
Dean Ford
Ford is the aggressor on the field which you love to see from that position. He is a hardnosed player who gets the job done by any means and a player who will have the opposing ball carriers question if they want to be on offense. Ford is a downhill, hard hitting line backer who reads gaps very well and can maneuver through blocks with ease. When unblocked he is a disruptor in the backfield. Ford’s closing speed is one thing you will see early on his tape. A very good player with good size who will continue to make a name for himself.
Connor Johnsey
Connor Johnsey
Johnsey is a quick reacting linebacker who seems to always be in the mix. He reads his keys very well and let them take him to the play where he and his teammates take care of business. Johnsey is very good in one on one situations where he rarely gets beaten, and has shown quickness when shooting the gaps on blitzes. He has a good feel for the game and it will be exciting to see where his game has grown next season.
