These prospects are often younger and a little unrefined, but still have great upside and are dudes you need to know across MN.
Cal Ronay : Rosemount 6′ 165 lbs 2026
The future of the Irish looks bright under Ronay. He showcased composure which is extremely uncommon for an underclassman, let alone a freshman. Throwing against upperclassman and college QBs did not rattle Ronay, as he showcased some beautiful passes throughout the camp. He had a level of arm strength not often found in underclassmen and hit some challenging back-shoulder passes throughout the camp. I’m excited to watch his career progress.
Nevin Poppy Nevin Poppy 6'4" | 180 lbs | QB Chanhassen | 2025 MN : Chanhassen 6’4″ 185 lbs 2025
Poppy has a legitimate chance to start for the Storm next season and I would not be surprised if he did. Poppy brings a lot to the table, including a great frame and a fantastic release. I saw some of him both here and at our PrepRedzone Stock-Up Showcase, and both times I was impressed. He could hit tight windows outside the hashes with no problem and did a great job of timing his balls on deeper routes.
Noah Theis: St. Cloud Tech 5’10” 130 lbs 2025
The three C’s were brought up a lot during the showcase. Coaches emphasized “Cool, calm, and collected” throughout the day, and to me no QB better did so better than Theis. He was extraordinarily relaxed while hitting some nasty passes across the middle. He may have been one of the most accurate QBs there and led his receivers well on intermediate routes. Theis looks to take over the varsity role next season and I’m excited to see him do so.
Connor Johnson: Forest Lake 5’11” 160 lbs 2026
Johnson caught my attention early on in the camp, with some quick and well-placed throws he definitely put everyone else on notice. He was surprisingly well-rounded and was able to accurately hit a variety of routes with a bunch of different WRs. I could see Johnson developing well under the Ranger’s offense and being a solid QB over the next few years.
Peyton Meyers Peyton Meyers 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Prior Lake | 2026 MN : Prior Lake 6′ 185 lbs 2026
Meyers was another already well-developed freshman at the showcase. He was another already well-rounded freshman who could make a variety of throws. He appeared to be extremely coachable, always taking notes from older QBs and listening to the coaches. He was extremely competitive during the end contest and went throw for throw with some of the top QBs at the camp. The Lakers’ future is bright.
Preston Grams: WEM 5’11” 165 lbs 2025
As a sophomore Grams got his first taste of varsity action. He will return his junior year with a solid year of varsity experience and look to build on some of the foundations that he displayed at the camp. Two things that stood out to me were arm talent and poise. He is extremely comfortable in the pocket and loves lofting deep balls to wideouts. He is capable of hitting WRs in stride and can put some zip on the ball if need be. I’m excited to see his development into his junior year.
Max Erb: Edina 6′ 170 lbs 2025
Erb was primarily a JV QB last season but looks to contend for a varsity role during his junior campaign. Erb is another young kid with a ton of talent, He has great arm strength and showed off some mobility as well as the ability to throw on the run. He can drop balls into the breadbasket on seams and is able to hit tight windows on out routes. He does a good job of putting the ball where only the WR can go up and get it. Erb is a name you should begin to know.
Beckham Wheeler Beckham Wheeler 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Mounds View | 2026 MN : Mounds View 6’3″ 195 lbs 2026
This kid may be one of the best-built freshman QBs I’ve seen in a while. He is every bit of 6’3″ and has incredible arm strength which he uses to loft deep balls to great effect. He times up his routes extremely well, something that I would not expect from a first-year QB. Wheeler has a ton of potential and I’m excited to see him develop over the next few years.
Hayden Charboneau Hayden Charboneau 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Barnum | 2024 State MN : Barnum 6’2″ 195 lbs 2024
Charboneau will return his senior season looking to continue being the Barnum Bombers QB1. Charboneau showed off incredible poise in the pocket and did a great job of hitting his WRs on short and intermediate routes. He has a quick release time and showed off some ability to throw on the run. I’d love to see him be able to open up more during his senior campaign.
Brayden Shafer: Princeton 6’2″ 185 lbs 2025
Shafer looked like the clear-cut replacement for Cooper Drews Cooper Drews 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Princeton | 2023 State MN at the showcase. He hit receivers with great timing and always putting great zip on the ball. He did a great job of communicating with his WRs and showed confidence and poise in the pocket. His rapid development as a passer is a good sign for the Tigers.
