The latest and final 2023 rankings on Prep Redzone Oklahoma were released on Monday with the Top 250 for the state’s 2023 class. Throughout the week, we’ll be breaking down prospects throughout the rankings. From stock risers and newcomers to breakdowns by positions, it will be a busy week! So keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the week for more on the 2023 class. In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on the top ten quarterbacks in the state’s 2023 class. Check out some of the best signal callers in the class.
Choctaw quarterback and Akron signee Steele Wasel Steele Wasel 6’4″ | 210 lbs | QB Choctaw | 2023 State OK went wire to wire as the state’s top quarterback for the 2023 class. Even before he took over as QB1 for the Yellowjackets in 2020, Wasel was already considered the state’s top quarterback prospect. He had an outstanding career that included two state championship game appearances and incredibly efficient play from the quarterback position. Wasel also continued his growth as a passer and a quarterback throughout the last three seasons. Wasel might have come up short of the ultimate goal of a state title but he and this Choctaw group set the bar high for years to come.
Arguably the most productive quarterback in the state’s 2023 class has been Metro Christian signal caller Kirk Francis Kirk Francis 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Metro Christian | 2023 State OK and he has the numbers to back it up. From his first season in 2020, where he helped lead Metro Christian to a state title, Francis has been one of the best quarterbacks in this class. His senior year was truly special as he guided the Patriots back to the state championship game and although Metro lost, he had one of the best performances in the title game that we’ve ever seen. It took a frustratingly long time for Francis to gain traction with his recruitment but he eventually got an opportunity from Tulsa and jumped at it.
Another quarterback prospect that has been on our radar for a few years now is Ardmore standout Cal Swanson Cal Swanson 6’2″ | 175 lbs | QB Ardmore | 2023 State OK down in southern Oklahoma. Swanson first got on our radar a few years ago when we watched him slinging the ball around at C4’s 7v7 tryout in Durant. We would then check out his sophomore film and it backed up what we saw in person. Swanson had one of the better arms in the state’s 2023 class and it was apparent when watching the film. Now, in 2022, Ardmore had a rare season where they missed out on the playoffs. But Swanson established himself as a power five prospect and would sign with Illinois in the Big Ten.
Rejoice Christian quarterback Chance Wilson Chance Wilson 6’3″ | 185 lbs | QB Rejoice Christian | 2023 State OK is arguably the best athlete in the state’s 2023 quarterback class and he was proving that throughout the last two years. Wilson was on the verge of becoming a two-time finalist for Player Of The Year and potentially winning it in 2022 before an injury sidelined him for the second half of the regular season. And when he came back for the playoffs, he just wasn’t back to 100 percent yet. Wilson is already on campus at Montana State and he’s definitely a quarterback to keep an eye on at the next level. The ceiling is incredibly high with Wilson and he could end up being the best of the group in four years.
Highlights
Speaking of a quarterback with a very high ceiling, Stillwater gunslinger Gage Gundy Gage Gundy 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Stillwater | 2023 State OK is definitely in that conversation. Gundy has emerged as an outstanding quarterback after starting for two seasons at Stillwater and helping lead the Pioneers to a perfect season and state championship. Gundy has always been an outstanding athlete but once he became QB1 for the Pioneers he really dedicated himself to becoming the best quarterback he could be. He’s also an absolute beast on the baseball field. While leading the Pioneers to the state title, Gundy was arguably the most efficient quarterback in the state, regardless of class.
Cushing quarterback Blaze Berlowitz Blaze Berlowitz 6’3″ | 195 lbs | QB Cushing | 2023 State OK is definitely in the discussion with some of the other three-year starters for most productive quarterbacks in the state. Berlowitz has put up numbers throughout his career but he absolutely exploded during his senior season and put up monster numbers as Cushing had one of the best offensive units in the state, regardless of class. The Berlowitz to Camden Crooks Camden Crooks 6’0″ | 190 lbs | WR Cushing | 2023 State OK connection has been very kind to Cushing over the last few seasons and was one of the top QB-WR duos in the state in 2022. Berlowitz is headed to New Mexico State as the Aggies continue to do a good job recruiting Oklahoma.
Norman North quarterback Kamden Sixkiller Kamden Sixkiller 6’4″ | QB Norman North | 2023 State OK is an example of how patience can pay off. In the world we live in now, if quarterbacks aren’t going to start right away, they transfer or move. For Sixkiller, he waited behind Gavin Frakes for his senior year to become QB1. Sixkiller made the most of his opportunity and after one year of starting, he proved that he belonged among the best quarterbacks in this class. He would eventually get recruited and signed with McNeese. While Sixkiller made the most of his one year as QB1, we still can’t help but wonder what might have been if he didn’t get hurt late in the year and had to miss the playoffs.
Despite being one of the state’s top baseball prospects, Noble lefty Colin Fisher Colin Fisher 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Noble | 2023 State OK has routinely been a top ten quarterback in the state’s 2023 class. Fisher is headed to Arkansas to play baseball if he doesn’t opt to go pro next summer. But on the gridiron, Fisher was one of the more underrated quarterbacks in this class. Fisher put up some of the best numbers over the last few seasons and led a Noble offense that was one of the more consistent and high-scoring units in the state. While Fisher might be playing a different sport at the next level, that doesn’t take away from him being a guy who could have gone next level for QB as well.
Grove quarterback Carson Trimble Carson Trimble 6’1″ | QB Grove | 2023 State OK might be the most experienced quarterback in the state’s 2023 class. He had meaningful playing time as a freshman and continued to get better and better over the last three seasons. When you talk about Trimble and the Grove offense, it’s very easy to go to the running game with their star running back. But take him away from the Grove offense and the Ridgerunners would still be fine behind Trimble leading the passing attack. And an underrated part of his game was his athletic ability. Trimble would commit to UCO a while ago and remained committed to the Bronchos throughout his senior season.
Similar to Fisher at Noble, Eufaula quarterback Luke Adcock Luke Adcock 6’3″ | 205 lbs | QB Eufaula | 2023 State OK might be playing baseball at the next level but that hasn’t changed our mind that he is one of the best quarterback prospects in the class. Like Fisher, Adcock has been committed to play baseball for a while now but like Fisher, he’s also put up numbers and produced at a high level on the gridiron as well. So he’s more than earned his spot on this list and he would be a next level guy in football if he wanted to be. This year in particular was special. Adcock lost his best playmaker in Khelil Deere and it didn’t matter. He still produced at a high level and helped lead Eufaula back to the playoffs.
