Continue ReadingEasily the top lineman for me, did lose a rep occasionally but nobody stood out like King-Grant. Impressive footwork and foot speed for an eighth-grader (class of 2027) that is already 6-foot-2 and 290-pounds. Did a really good job of using footwork to recover against some of the faster Defensive Linemen. His length made him really difficult to get around and the Defensive Linemen who were consistently winning speed rushes struggled with King-Grant. Didn’t ask what size shoe he wore, but he had boats for feet and was still able to pick them up and move laterally well. Summing it up, he had the best size/fundamentals/athleticism combo at camp. Was named the Offensive Line MVP.
Preston Bernard Preston Bernard 6’2″ | 270 lbs | OL The Haverford School | 2027 State PA ‘s good reps were some of, if not the, best reps at camp. In limited reps, showed an incredibly strong upper body and was solid fundamentally in his lower half. Once he got good hand placement on a Defensive Linemen, the rep was won. Bernard did a great job of getting into a winning position and keeping himself there. To get nit-picky, he did have a more difficult time against some of the longer Defensive Linemen who extended their arms well. That said, he was the second best Offensive Linemen there. Played a strong, physical and dominant style of ball–all while not saying a single word. Coach’s dream right there.
Don’t refresh the page, there’s another Bernard that earned high praise. Owen Bernard Owen Bernard 6’2″ | 265 lbs | OL The Haverford School | 2027 State PA was really smooth as a blocker, he did a really good job of keeping a strong base against pass rush moves. He did really well moving with, and mirroring, Defensive Lineman on spins/swims. The only “knock” on Bernard, is that he had more difficulty the bigger, heavier interior guys who depended on their mass and weight. However, if a Defensive Lineman did not come with a strong, bullrush type of rep, Bernard handled them quite easily. The word technician comes to mind when describing him.
I was surprised and impressed by Bowen, the only seventh-grade (class of 2028) prospect to get a nod to the first team. At first look, did not look like he was at a top-performing level athletically, but quickly became one of my favorite Offensive Linemen during 1-on-1’s. In fact, the Massachusetts native was even gave Defensive Line MVP Jayson Nitz Jayson Nitz 6’1″ | 230 lbs | DL St. Joseph’s Prep | 2027 State PA a little trouble. Bowen had a strong base, kept his legs and hips moving, and was aggressive in 1-on-1’s. Bowen’s snap to hands-on Defensive Lineman time was extremely quick and he was not afraid to reset his hands for better positioning. Bowen didn’t really shine until 1-on-1’s but showed all the tools you’d like to see in an Offensive Lineman.
Highlights
At a verified 6-foot-4 and 245-pounds, Amon did really well in the run-blocking drills and exceeded first-impression expectations when it came to his athleticism. He moved well for his size and I was impressed by the quickness in his lower half. For a bigger, longer prospect at this age, he displayed a harnessed ability to use his lower body to get in strong positions as a blocker. Really liked what Wright was showing in INDY’s and athletic testing and was a standout for me in both. In 1-on-1’s he plateaued a little but had really competitive reps with some of the top Defensive Linemen in attendance. Out of all the Offensive Linemen on this First Team, he has the biggest upside in my opinion.
