Having an elite quarterback on any team could result in an overall improvement in the team’s success from year to year. At the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp, an elite group of quarterbacks competed to become the best in the region. With some of the best quarterbacks that I have had a chance to evaluate, here is a look at the Second-Team Quarterback group:
Matthew Brady Matthew Brady 6’4″ | 190 lbs | QB Bloomington Central Catholic | 2027 IL is another quarterback who made a name for himself during the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp. Coming out of the Land of Lincoln, Matthew is a sneaky athletic quarterback who can perform at a high level when the pressure is turned on. With the second-highest 40 yard dash time out of the group, it is clear that Matthew can get the job done while on the move. Matthew also displayed a high level of body control as he moved through the L-Drill with ease while also tabbing one of the fast times out of the group as well. Watching him work through individual drills Matthew put on a show with precise footwork as he weaved through cones with ease. Matthew also showed off his smooth throwing motion and seamless arm movement as he hit his targets in drill work. He also went to work during routes on air as he was one of the best in the group with ball placement at all three levels of throws. Matthew proved that he has the arm strength to hit deep targets on the field, but he also coupled that with prime time accuracy that is hard to find at this level. Matthew has an incredible upside as a quarterback, and I can’t wait to see him unlock his full potential and become a force as the field general where ever he is down the road.

Jasiah Summerfield Jasiah Summerfield 5’11” | 170 lbs | QB Omaha Bryan | 2027 NE is another quarterback that jumped out at me during the camp. Coming out of the Cornhusker State of Nebraska, Jasiah made the trek out to Northern Illinois and put on a clinic amongst some of his peers during the camp. Putting together some of the stronger testing numbers in the group, Jasiah proved that on-paper he is one of the more athletically gifted athletes in the group. During drill work, Jasiah showcased strong poise with the ball in his hands and worked effortlessly through various drills put on by the coaches. With one of the smoother throwing motions in the group, Jasiah effortlessly delivered passes to his targets consistently and concisely. He also displayed one of the faster throw releases out of the group and paired that with accuracy that is hard to find out of this class. When translated into competition, Jasiah has the capability to rip passes out of the pocket at an incredibly fast clip. Jasiah also proved to have some of the better timing in his throws out of this group, which allowed him to set his receivers up with easy catches on the run. Jasiah has proven himself time and time again at several showcases around Nebraska, and this camp was no different. It will only be a matter of time before Jasiah makes a name for himself on the big stage at one of college football’s elite programs.
Ron Smith Jr. Ron Smith Jr. 6’0″ | 170 lbs | QB IL is another quarterback who made a name for himself in his recent performance at the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp. Coming out of the Prairie State of Illinois, Ron is an athletic quarterback with an insane burst of speed that has him trending towards a dual-threat type quarterback. The only seventh-grader (class of 2028) prospect to earn a selection to the 2nd Team, Ron put on a clinic during the testing portion of the event. It was clear that he was going put together a strong camp performance. As he translated the work over to individual drills, Ron showed off a unique skillset that set him apart from the rest of the quarterback group. Ron shows that his is capable of working well inside the pocket with great footwork and downfield vision. Coupled with his feet, Ron also has a quick and smooth release on his throws. Just from watching him work, Ron is a very natural quarterback with the capability to being an absolute force on the field. Just from this performance, it is clear that Ron is going to become a premier quarterback in the state of Illinois. I firmly believe that it won’t be long until Ron pops up on the radar for college programs across the country.

Jabin Gonzales Jabin Gonzales 6’2″ | 195 lbs | QB Orchard Lake St. Mary’s | 2027 State MI is another quarterback whose performance help him stand-out from the rest of the group. Coming out of the Great Lake State of Michigan, Jabin is an athlete who I have written about before and remember being incredibly impressed with what he is able to do on the field. After watching he performance at the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp, Jabin definitely confirmed everything that I thought about his as a quarterback. Being a dual-threat type quarterback, Jabin proved that he can move smoothly on the football field and has no problem hitting targets in the process. Jabin’s natural throwing motion during drills was one of the smoother and seamless one’s that I had a chance to evaluate. During individual drills, Jabin displayed the lighting fast release in quick game as well as his accuracy. Jabin also proved to be one of the more capable quarterbacks in terms of placing the ball with his wideouts on the move. With everything that I saw from Jabin, it is clear that he is capable of being a player that can take his team to the next level in competition. I am excited to watch Jabin develop down the road and see where his career takes him in the future.
