The latest 2024 rankings on Prep Redzone Oklahoma were released on Monday with the Top 125 for the state’s 2024 class. Throughout the week, we’ll be breaking down prospects throughout the rankings. From stock risers and newcomers to breakdowns by positions, it will be a busy week! So keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the week for more on the 2024 class. In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on five prospects that made significant jumps up in the latest ranking update. Several prospects made sizable jumps in the latest ranking update, including one prospect jumping into the top five for overall prospects.
Moved From #64 Overall To #37 Overall rnWe start off this “Stock Riser” feature with the top stock riser at the quarterback position and this might just be the start. Chandler quarterback Alec Jackson Alec Jackson 6’3″ | 200 lbs | QB Chandler | 2024 State OK jumped up nearly 30 spots in the latest update after his first season as QB1 for the Lions. While most of the attention on the Chandler offense surrounded their star running back Casmen Hill Casmen Hill 5’11” | 175 lbs | RB Chandler | 2023 State OK , when you throw on the tape, you see Jackson making plenty of plays as well. In fact, the combination of tape and seeing Jackson in person at our camp last week is a big reason why he made this jump. Jackson looks the part and might be the most physically ready quarterback to go to the next level so he definitely passes the eye test, which is huge for quarterback prospects. Jackson is an outstanding athlete as well so this could be just the beginning. The next time this updated, he could be contending for the top QB spot in the 2024 class.
Moved From #40 Overall To #27 Overall rnMaking a jump into the Top 30 overall in the latest update is Piedmont standout Cannon Wood Cannon Wood 6’1″ | 215 lbs | ATH Piedmont | 2024 State OK . The junior was a star for Piedmont on offense and defense and earned 1st Team All State honors following a season where he ran for nearly 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns and then turned around and had nearly 160 tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Similar to Jackson at Chandler, when you see Wood in person, it’s hard not to be impressed as he is a very physical football player and he passes the eye test. While we have Wood listed as an athlete during this ranking update, it’s hard not to imagine him eventually finding his way to the defensive side of the ball. His 1st Team All State honor was at the linebacker position. Whether he ends up playing there at the next level or even moves back and plays more of a hybrid safety, we really like the ceiling for Wood moving forward on defense.
Highlights
Moved From #46 Overall To #29 Overall rnOne of the toughest prospects to evaluate when this ranking update happened was Hominy standout Jaxon Woods Jaxon Woods 6’0″ | ATH Hominy | 2024 State OK . On one hand, he’s undersized and that’s going to go against him at the next level as a prospect. On the other hand, he was arguably the most productive player in Oklahoma last season. Between his passing and rushing numbers on offense to what he did on defense and even on special teams, there were few players in the state that were as valuable as Woods. In fact, he might have been the most valuable player when you took everything into consideration. So it will definitely be interesting to see how the recruiting process plays out for Woods moving forward because you cannot argue with the production. We still need to figure out exactly where Woods would play at the next level, but it would seem weird not to see such a playmaker not make it to a high level.
Moved From #29 Overall To #4 Overall rnStillwater tight end and Oklahoma State commit Josh Ford Josh Ford 6’3″ | TE Stillwater | 2024 State OK jumped into the top five in our recent ranking update and this was a long time coming after we first saw him at the end of May, 2022. Ford looked like a power five prospect then, which was the end of his sophomore year. Ford then had a really strong junior campaign where he was an extension of a Stillwater offensive line that helped the Pioneers have arguably the best rushing attacks in Class 6A-2. Ford didn’t do much in the passing game at all last season. In fact, he didn’t even have 200 yards receiving and only caught three touchdowns. He was asked to block and he did that incredibly well. It will be interesting to see how his recruitment takes off the more schools see his junior film. He’s been committed to the hometown Cowboys for just a few weeks now and we think between his frame, physicality on film and potential, he’s about to blow up in a big way.
Moved From #51 Overall To #22 Overall rnAnd our final prospect on this spotlight not only moved up 29 spots in the latest update, we also moved him from listed as an athlete to a running back. After watching what Southeast standout Rodney Fields Rodney Fields 6’0″ | RB Del City | 2024 State OK did last season as a junior as well as seeing him perform at our camp last week, there’s no doubt that he’s one of the better running backs in the state’s 2024 class. Fields isn’t the biggest back but he’s strong and then there’s the speed. He got clocked at a 4.44 during the 40 yard dash last week and he’s also one of the better sprinters in the 100 meter dash. Fields has wheels and he showcased that throughout the 2022 season for the Spartans. But we can’t stress enough the ability that Fields has to run in between the tackles and bounce off defenders and then when he gets into the open field, you’re not catching him from behind. Fields is one of the best offensive weapons in the 2024 class.
