With one game left, these players put their teams on their back! Here are the Stand out Players in the 6A Playoffs
North Shore vs Westlake
North Shore
Johnson is tough…very tough! He does a nice job at following his blocks. Once he hits the hole, he was really solid speed the rest of the way. North Shore did not throw the ball too often, and leaned on Johnson to set the tone. His longest carry displayed everything that makes him great: great vison and feel for the flow of the play, tough running to break low tacklers, speed to out run the remaining defenders to the endzone! The senior was not ready to go home yet, rushing for 134 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns!
Evan Jackson
Evan Jackson
What can’t this kid do? DB, K/PR, and QB. To start off, North Shore played man coverage for 99.9999999996% on the game. Meaning, if a DB got beat, it would have been an easy TD, first down or big completion. Shout out to all the North Shore DBs, they did a phenomenal job keeping the Westlake passing game in check. Jackson often followed the top receiver, Jaden Greenhouse (who is a dawg in his own right) around the field. He rarely saw other WRs. Playing press most of the night, he was patient at the line, using his hands well. He has really nice speed and rarely left the receiver’s hip pocket. He is also a willing tackler. Not only was he brilliant in coverage, but threw a touchdown pass as well! I’ll be honest, the pass wasn’t the prettiest, but to be fairly accurate while during duress…you gotta go what you gotta do! The primary returner, Jackson took a punt return to the house! Jackson was all over the field Saturday night and gets the Player of the Game vote for me!
Katy vs Vandegrift
Katy
Momma there goes that man again! Katy may not have won, but it wasn’t because of Davis. He balled out..again. Smooth runner, he follows his blocking and accelerates. A one cut runner, he does not waste time with choppy feet! When he plants his foot, he makes defenders miss. He should not scientifically run that hard for his size! His breakaway speed is lethal! Once he gets to the open field, it’s an automatic touchdown. I have yet to see him get caught from behind. The senior finished a losing effort with 257 yards rushing and two touchdownds. Great career, and I am looking forward to seeing what he does in college!
Highlights
Vandegrift
Miles Coleman
Miles Coleman
A player with blazing seed and incredibly quick cuts in and out of breaks, Coleman was unstoppable Saturday night! He was dangerous in the short, intermediate, and deep game. Vandegrift targeted him early and often. He’s a tough player for his stature. It is not wise to give him a free release off the line. His breaks are so sudden, and he has really great hands! He lines up at every receiver position and looks natural at each one. He is a threat to score almost every play, running the back like a running back. There is little to no flaws in Coleman’s game. The Junior finished the night with 7 catches for 184 yards and a touchdown to go along with it!
Desoto vs Guyer
Desoto
Riden Jr. has really nice size for a sophomore. He is a tough runner that runs low! He does a really good job at driving his feet before and after contact, gaining additional yardage. When Riden sees a hole, he plants his foot and burst through. He also seems offended if you try to arm tackle him. Quicker than he is fast, Riden does not possess breakaway speed, but his vision and acceleration get him into open field often. Riden Jr. is having an amazing start to his high school career! He finished the night with 28 carries for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns!
