The prospect landscape is starting to become clearer and below is a look at some class of 2027 prospects (athletes in their eighth-grade school year) that have come across my desk. As football recruiting and evaluating continues to change, the eighth-grade year is becoming a pivotal time for young athletes to garner early attention from universities. Here’s a look at some prospects that are on the trajectory to be playing a high level of football for years to come.
Brody is another standout quarterback coming out of the state of California. With his patience coupled with his arm talent, Brody does a phenomenal job of getting the ball to his open receivers. Along with that, Brody has no problem moving out of the pocket and keeping his eyes downfield, allowing him to expand the play and get his receivers open. Brody also has the speed and the athleticism to move the ball on the ground as well, making him a dual-threat quarterback that can beat you however he wants. Brody is already starting to get a taste of the recruiting process with some power 5 schools already starting to poke around. How he continues to develop over the next four years will be vital to seeing how far, and where, his football career goes.

Jack is an athletic quarterback coming out of the state of Florida that has a ton of varsity time under his belt already. A re-class kid from the 2026 class, he has one of the more talented arms that I have seen coming out of 2027. Jack has little problem getting the ball out to his receivers. Jack does a really good job putting touch on his passes and makes it easy for his targets to make a play on the ball. Jack also has the speed to be able to improvise on broken plays and scrambles, which speaks volumes when looking at the speed that south Florida traditionally has. With everything that I have seen from Jack, it is clear that he can be very hard to prepare for on the defensive side of the ball. The 6-foot-1, 160-pounder has the potential to go a long way, stay tuned.

The son of former Ohio State Defensive Lineman Heath Queen (1997-2000), Emmett is an electric quarterback coming out of Covington Catholic in Kentucky. Playing with pin-point accuracy, it’s rare to see Emmett miss on a throw. His footwork and vision allows Emmett to find his receivers and deliver a ball accurately and on time. He’s well-trained and has the benefit of P5 genetics. Emmett also has the arm strength to drive the ball downfield and hit his receivers, who in turn blow the top off the coverage. Most impressively, Emmett is a capable improviser who can expand plays and find receivers who do not seem to be in his natural progression. Emmett’s highlight tape was a lot of fun to watch, and I am excited to see where his football career takes him. I think the Buckeyes legacy has the potential to play at the same level as his pops.

Lorenzo is a shifty, playmaking athlete coming out of Michigan. With his impressive speed, Lorenzo is a big play threat on any given play. If Lorenzo is given the space, he has the capability of outrunning anyone on the field while he makes his way to the end zone. His athleticism plays a key role in allowing Lorenzo to make defenders miss and extend the play for as long as he can. Lorenzo also has impressive ball skills as he has no problem making a play on the ball no matter where the ball is on his body. Lorenzo clearly has shown that he can play football at a very high level, and it shouldn’t be long until he becomes one of Michigan’s most sought-after 2027 prospects.
John is a commanding linebacker coming out of southern New Jersey. With his impressive speed and strength, John is a force inside the box who has no problem stopping the run before the play gets started. The instinctual nature to his game leads him to the ball and his explosiveness helps him bring the ball carrier down. When John is blitzing off the edge, its game over. The 6-foot, 175-pounder has lighting speed and has proven to be too much for the guys up front, as he gets to the quarterback almost instantly. In coverage, John does a good job of staying patient in his zone and allowing the ball to come to him. John has an explosive tape and could become one of the best linebackers in New Jersey for the class of 2027. In addition to his ability on the football field, he’s also one of the better wrestlers in the Garden State, as well.
Jaylen is a big bodied tight end coming out of the state of Ohio. At 6-foot-3 and 210-pounds he has impressive size coupled with his athleticism, Jaylen is seemingly impossible to cover in the pass game. This past season he picked up an offer from Kentucky, and is also reportedly already starting to hear from Cincinnati Bearcats too. The game-changing aspect to his game is his speed. There are not many kids at his level that can move like he can with the size that he has, probably due in part to his ability on the basketball court. Jaylen is more than capable of going deep on the field and getting open when his team needs it most. The most important aspect of Jaylen’s game that makes him elite is his catching ability. Jaylen is sure handed and has no problem bringing in passes that come his way. Jaylen has already proven to be a force early on in his career and he should continue to reel in scholarship offers.
Barrett is a three-sport stand-out coming out of the state of Oklahoma. At quarterback, Barrett can seemingly do it all and at a very high level. He has the speed to beat anyone of the field on the ground and the athleticism to extend plays if he needs to. Most impressively, Barrett has an elite arm. No matter what is going on around him, Barrett is capable of tossing the ball down field and hitting his receivers in spots to allow them to extend the play. Barrett has an elite set of skills in everything that he does, and it won’t be long until the three-sport athlete takes his talent to the big stage in college athletics. He is going to go far in athletics.
