The Celtics were the cinderella team this fall making barley getting into the playoffs as a 5-4 team with a week 9 win then putting on an impressive performance beating highly talented teams to get to the 4A title game after finishing 3-6 last fall. Hats off to the Celtics as they had one heck of a season. For Sacred Heart Griffin, it was business as usual. They fell short last season losing to Joliet Catholic Academy in the 4A IHSA State Title gain and were on a mission to get back to the chip as it was legendary coach Leanard’s last season. He finished his career with over 400 wins and added one last state title to his resume as well – a sure fire hall of fame coach. The Cyclones won this one 44 to 20 to add another trophy to their case. With that being said, there are talented young men on both teams and we’re here to highlight them. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Sacred Heart Griffin Standouts.

Tyaire Lott
Tyaire Lott
I recently scouted the Cyclones semi final game against Rochester where Mr. Lott was a force and he did much of the same during this contest. He finished the night 12/26 for 214 yards and 3 TDs en route to become a state champion. All night long he had to stand strong in the pocket getting the ball off under pressure with defenders in his face to keep the sticks moving. This resulted in him delivering both level 2 and level 3 throws downfield putting it where his receiver’s can go up to get it. He also has legs to him on QB design runs to keep the sticks moving and flashes his elusiveness making defenders miss in open space. Currently holds a few offers, has good potential for the next level.
Mr. Jackson was a man on a mission being a force on both sides of the ball finishing with 10 carries for 112 yards with 1 TD and 9 tackles on defense. On offense, he uses his lateral quickness to turn the corner and broke a long run by getting vertical using his foot quicks along the sideline before he got brought down in the redzone. The very next play he took the carry and got into the endzone to cap off his explosive run. On defense, this young man can close in an instant to make open field tackles in the flat for little to no gain throughout this night and when he did wasn’t afraid to deliver heavy hits on the ball carrier. He also came on a blitz a few times where he closed on the QB flushing him out of the pocket and generated pressure forcing errand throws. All in all, this young man was electric and gave his team the spark to not only keep their lead but expand upon it.
Mr. Hamilton finished the night with 4 receptions for 46 yards with 1 TD, 4 tackles, and 2 PBUs. On offense, this young man can win over the top using his long strides to stack defenders and once he does can break free for 6. He also flashes his long catch radius securing grabs above defenders heads. On defense, this young man is one heck of a rangy safety that can cover sideline to sideline. Here, he plays the alley well closing in an instant to secure open field tackles on the perimeter and can close on 50/50 balls quickly forcing incomplete passes. Committed to continue his basketball career at Quincy University.
Hudson McMann
Hudson McMann
Mr. McMann finished the night with 9 tackles and did a good job alongside Corey West working gap to gap plugging gaps in run support. This young man closes quickly in close space where he was able to meet the ball carrier in the hole for no gain and if he wasn’t able to make the tackle on the play he forced the ball carrier to bounce the plays outside allowing his teammates to rally to the ball securing the tackle for minimum/no gain. He also was able to generate QB pressure when he came through a blitz through the B gap on a few occasions.
Errol “Bill” Sanders
Errol “Bill” Sanders
Mr. Sanders made the most out of all his touches on offense finished with 8 carries for 100 yards with 2 TDs, 1 reception for 1 TD, and 2 tackles on the night. His ability to change gears quickly and get to full speed in an instant is what helped him cap off long runs for 6 once the ball is in his hands. This was seen both once he got into open space running outside the tackle and when he took a halfback screen 54 yards for 6. Overall, this is an explosive type runner that can take a short pass/run and break it for 6 outrunning 2nd level defenders.
Jake Kepler
Jake Kepler
Mr. Kepler finished the night with 7 tackles, 1.0 TFLs, and 1 PBU on the defensive side of the ball. This young man is a rangy type of defender that can get hands on the halfback running routes in the air attack pushing him out of bounds on the re-route forcing an incomplete pass. He also makes open field tackles in the flat using his range and long reach to secure tackles for a loss/no gain on the perimeter. This young man also came on a blitz generating QB pressure on more than one occasion as well. Safe to say that this young man is going to be a force next fall having one more year of HS left.
Madixx Morris
Madixx Morris
Mr. Morris finished the night with 3 receptions for 75 yards with 1 TD and 2 tackles on the night. This young man was was the main target as standout KeShon Singleton KeShon Singleton 6’2″ | 180 lbs | WR Sacred Heart-Griffin | 2023 State IL was bracketed all night long. Here, he can find soft spot in zone coverages where he sits to be an outlet for his QB and gets vertical once he secures the catch. Where he shines the most is in his route running as he can set up his routes well to stack defenders and break them off with a speed cut creating separation on the play. He then is able to go up for 50/50 balls and adjusts last second to secure the contested catch on deep shots downfield. One of the many talented young men on this offensive attack.
Mason Grove
Mason Grove
Mr. Grove has one heck of a leg finishing with 7 punts for 198 yards, touchbacks on each kickoff, and nailed a 47 yard field goal with room to have made it from 55 if need be. I’m very interested to see what his maximum range for field goals are as he has leg strength that’s up there with some of the best kickers we have in the state. Check this young man out as he can be a difference maker in your special team’s room.
Honorable Mention
