This group will be put together in two parts due to the massive number of attendees at the wide receiver position and the solid depth we saw in Aberdeen. I spy at least 5+ prospects on this list that should be playing on Saturdays, college coaches! Meet all eight standouts in part one of our WR standouts edition.
Owen Brandt Owen Brandt 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Harrisburg | 2026 State SD , WR, Harrisburg (SD) 2026
Owen is a 2026 WR prospect I watched last Spring in Iowa and one that, although just a freshman, came out to our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase, and I saw plenty of growth from what I saw last Spring. The most considerable growth I saw was just how crisper his route-running has gotten as he plays with great vision and good ball skills, regardless of the size of the DB he went up against. He’s also grown with his change of direction on his cuts as in 1v1s and his shuttle; he also showed loads of explosion there with a 4.62 shuttle. I love how this kid owns his craft and the opportunities he’s given, as he should be near the top of the Class of 2026 when we put out our 2026 watchlist in January. Owen will be playing for SD Elite this spring as 7on7 football comes to South Dakota in the high school ranks.
Quincy Thu, WR, Castlewood (SD) 2024
Quincy was a WR prospect that I caught late in 1v1s, but what he showed off in the little time I watched him was what stood out to me. I was really impressed with this young man’s stretch for the ball as he showed smooth instincts during the route-running I got to watch from him on Sunday at our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase. Quincy was a kid with limited tape from his junior season, but what he showed off in those reps I did catch showed a ton of athletic upside when I look at his future. He also tested extremely well, as he logged a 4..44 in the shuttle and showed off an explosion in the broad jump with an 8’9. He has some raw tape right now, but the playmaking abilities he shows on it make his reel more impressive than the length you see of it. Quincy should be 2024 that will play on Saturdays.
Stevie Mcmath Stevie Mcmath 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR BOLD | 2023 MN , WR, BOLD (MN) 2023
Stevie was the first one out of the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase to get an offer, and this has been a young man I have been anxiously waiting for since the SMSU prospect camp this summer in Marshall to get one, as he is way more under the radar than he should be. Stevie had one of the top 40-yard dashes on the day for the WR group (4.63) and exemplified a grit to his game with his smooth change of directions skills with his route-running ability. He also showed a significant explosion for the college coaches to see in attendance in the broad jump with an 8’9. In my eyes, Stevie is a young man destined for more opportunities, as he also showed more length on tape than you might read from his measurables. Excited to see him for Prep Redzone camp #2 of the winter in Minnetonka in a little over a week.
Keaton Rohlfs Keaton Rohlfs ATH Redfield | 2023 State , Redfield (SD) 2023
Keaton has massive get-off when getting going on his routes from what I saw from Sunday, and I thought his game-time speed overpainted his testing numbers from the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase in Aberdeen. He also shows sizeable agility and cuts from another cloth with his route-running ability. In my eyes, this kid is the definition of a swiss-army knife, as he is a three-level athlete for the Pheasants on both sides of the ball and special teams. He shows great patience with the ball in his hands anytime in the open field. When I watched Keaton’s tape from a few months ago, I was quite surprised he doesn’t have an offer yet as I believe this young man is flying way under the radar, and I would have him on my recruiting board to offer if I was a recruiter at the next level for sure.
Roman Fossum Roman Fossum 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Bowman County | 2024 State ND , WR, Bowman County (ND) 2024
Roman was another bursty wide receiver when I watched him at the 40-yard dash station, as he logged a 4.75 in his final rep in the Presentation Dome and brought a finished run that I love seeing from my skill guys on the offensive side of the ball. There also was something about his creativity with his route-running as Roman flashed some skillsets that kept his pedal to the floor with his solid changes of direction. Roman is also a BOOMER on tape at outside linebacker for Bowman County; as one of his clips, if you happened to blink, you would have missed his accelerator hammer down the gas into the backfield. I also like his longevity on both sides of the ball, as he carries solid momentum when he is traveling to get the football. As a first look on Sunday, Roman will find himself within our 2024 rankings based on what we saw in Aberdeen.
Jack Simmers Jack Simmers 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Grand Forks Central | 2024 State ND , WR, Grand Forks Central (ND) 2024
With wide receivers, we will continue to punch the topic of watching their change of direction, and Jack Simmers Jack Simmers 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Grand Forks Central | 2024 State ND of Grand Forks Central was another one that leveled up in the early testing session with fluid mobility in the L-Drill and shuttle (7.31 and 4.56). I recall having Jack on our North Dakota Big Dogs of the Week this fall, and seeing him work in person showed me what that hype was all about. Jack showed off growing finesse with his shorter and intermediate routes on Sunday with also having a great frame (6’0 191) that had the size and speed to level off some of his competitors on the other side of the ball by getting good separation. It’s no wonder to me that GFC depended on this young man quickly out of the backfield as his vision and fluidity in his movement upfield showed a lot of promise inside and outside of our PRZ Dakotas Showcase, and Jack is yet another prospect that should be a scholarship WR when his time is up in Grand Forks.
Teagan Coonrod, WR, Minot Bishop Ryan (ND) 2025
Meet our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase WR MVP Teagan Coonrod from powerful Minot Bishop Ryan, who, if I had to give out a Team MVP from our Dakotas Showcase, it would go to those Lions from MBR for sure. Teagan is a prime example of what 1v1 reps can do for your resume, as he won several battles in 1v1s that we got to catch over in Aberdeen. One word I would use to describe Teagan’s routes on Sunday would be smooth, as his hands were stuck like glue in the friendly confines of the Presentation Dome. His 2025 tape has some rawness to it, but after watching some agile steps and ball-tracking vision on Sunday, there is no doubt in my mind this young buck will blossom even more for the Lions in the coming years!
Maddox Kihne Maddox Kihne 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Freeman Academy | 2023 State , WR, Freeman (SD) 2023
Maddox was another WR prospect that got his 2nd offer a couple of days after the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase ended, as one Dakotas school was after this First-Team All Camp Team wide receiver. He certainly showed off his moves with his testing numbers, with a top in group 4.35 shuttle and a 4.59 in the 40-yard dash. I love the athleticism Maddox played with in Aberdeen, and that consistently fits into what his tape shows off, as he’s fun as heck to watch on intermediate and deep routes over the middle of the field. He has an explosive finish with creative directional movement when his original route gets cut by the defense; I think this is because of the versatility Maddox has with his vision and football IQ, as he looks like a WR prospect that watches his fair share of tape week after week to analyze the positional leverage he carries with his lower body and athletic ability. Maddox reminds me a bit of Mobridge-Pollock’s Brady Bauer at last winter’s Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase in Fargo-similar size and athleticism, and both were small school kids that should get that late D2 offer. Based on what I saw Sunday, there should be a slew of more football opportunities for Maddox coming his way this winter, as he placed himself as a stockriser in our 2023 class last Sunday in Aberdeen.
Part II should be released before 5 PM Central time tomorrow!
