Carl Albert added another gold ball to their impressive trophy case after beating McAlester 49-7 on Saturday afternoon in Edmond. The Titans did what they've done all season. Run. The Titans would finish with nearly 300 yards on the ground and would play suffocating defense, putting the Buffaloes in a hole that they weren't going to be able to overcome. Head coach Mike Dunn becomes the latest Titan head coach to lead the Titans to a state title. And this one definitely feels sweet as Dunn won four championships as a Carl Albert player and another as an assistant coach. Now he adds to his name to a list that includes other legendary coaches like Gary Rose and Mike Corley.

The Buffaloes, who had to settle for silver for the second straight year, had a good game plan coming into Saturday. They had to play without star running back [player_tooltip player_id='91049' first='Erik' last='McCarty'] and because of that, they wanted to shorten the game. They did a good job as they took over ten minutes of clock in the first quarter. But the offense couldn't manage any points until the final minute in the fourth quarter when they would score their only touchdown of the game on a [player_tooltip player_id='460524' first='Caden' last='Lesnau'] pass to Carter Lance

Junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='360239' first='Xavier' last='Robinson'] was dominant once again. He ran behind a strong offensive line to finish with 180 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. He also threw a touchdown and caught a touchdown in the win on Saturday. Robinson eclipsed 2,500 yards for the season and finished the year with 39 rushing touchdowns. He rewrote the record book for a single season at Carl Albert and the offensive line gets a lot of credit, but there's no doubt that Robinson has firmly established himself as one of the best players in Oklahoma.

The Titans opened the scoring with a [player_tooltip player_id='150088' first='Reed' last='Dequasie'] touchdown pass to [player_tooltip player_id='294261' first='Trey' last='Washington'] to go up 7-0 in the first quarter. The first Robinson touchdown run came in the second quarter following a 98-yard drive. Dequasie would also hook up with [player_tooltip player_id='165365' first='Tashawn' last='James'] on a 35-yard touchdown just before halftime to put the Titans up 21-0 at halftime. Robinson would add another rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown to tight end [player_tooltip player_id='287381' first='Caleb' last='Cornell'] in the third quarter on a jump pass at the goal line. Robinson would catch his final touchdown of the season from [player_tooltip player_id='429016' first='Kash' last='Ferris'] early in the fourth quarter. Ferris, who came in for Dequasie, would also run in a touchdown later in the final period.

Carl Albert did what Carl Albert does and that's finish strong in December. The Titans would improve to 17-1 all time in state championship games. They were dominant over the last month as they really impressed once the playoffs began. There was never a doubt on Saturday afternoon. And we'll throw this out for good measure. Back in August, in our bold predictions for the 2022 season, we said that not only would Carl Albert win it this year, but this would be the start of a three-peat. They checked the first one off Saturday.
